Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Academic Affairs is headed by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs who is responsible for administering all academic and administrative policies and the operation of the University's colleges and schools, Academic Library Services, and the Offices of Learner Operations, Research, Innovation & Engagement, and Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research ( IPAR). The policies and operations within Academic Affairs include academic programs, research operations and compliance, community and industry engagement, and personnel and associated budgets, along with a broad range of student and faculty support services. The Associate Provost of Learner Operations is a member of the Provost's executive leadership team and oversees a portfolio of divisional operational units organized to support student success from the point of admission to graduation.
The Undergraduate Admissions Office is responsible for identifying, attracting and enrolling students in sufficient numbers to meet the University's enrollment projections while improving the quality of the student population. The office processes approximately 36,000 applications yearly, including freshmen, transfer, readmit, visitor, non-degree, pre-college, and auditor students. In order to generate and process applications from these prospective students, the office is involved in many public relations, marketing, customer service, and other outreach activities to cultivate inquiries for additional information about ECU/application materials. These inquiries are received via mail, phone, e-mail, and third party search sources and currently exceed will over 100,000 in quantity for one calendar year.

The Admissions Office's activities are performed by a staff which includes a substantial operations/processing staff, administrative support staff, technical support staff, as well as counselors, assistant directors, associate directors, and senior associate directors.
Job Duties
The Director for Undergraduate Admissions has overall responsibility for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, has delegated authority to make decisions in the evaluation of students for admission and serves in a senior leadership role in executing the University's strategic enrollment management plan. The Director for Undergraduate Admissions is responsible to ensuring accuracy of admissions decisions, meeting new freshmen and new transfer enrollment goals established by senior administration, and ensuring compliance with all related ECU and UNC System policies and procedures.
The Director for Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for:

  • Effective and efficient operations in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Articulating the University's admissions policy and practices to a variety of constituents.
  • Ensuring recruitment and related marketing plans align with institutional goals and leverage multi-channel communication strategies.
  • Continuous improvement of admissions operations and processes to meet the undergraduate enrollment goals of the University and enhance the student experience.
  • Precision in executing strategic enrollment action plans, including a reliance on data, market intelligence, and industry best practices.
  • Articulating goals for recruiters, monitoring progress, and supporting related activities.
  • Refinement of yield strategies based on statistical analysis.
  • Management of personnel assigned to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, including access to appropriate professional development opportunities, direct and indirect supervision, and compliance with evaluation requirements.
  • Execution and management of the budgets within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Recommending resource investments to support achieving enrollment goals.
  • Institutional collaboration in support of undergraduate student success goals.
  • Providing the Provost and the Associate Provost of Learner Operations with regular funnel reports.
  • Serving on various institutional committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provost or the Associate Provost of Learner Operations.


30% Leadership

  • Executes strategic enrollment action plans, including a reliance on data, market intelligence, and industry best practices.
  • Refines yield strategies based on statistical analysis.
  • Implements continuous improvements for admissions operations and processes to meet the undergraduate enrollment goals of the University.
  • Articulates the University's admissions policies and practices to a variety of constituents.
  • Consistently presents undergraduate enrollment data and projections to the Chancellor (and his cabinet), the Board of Trustees, Alumni Directors Board, and the Board of Visitors
    Articulates goals for recruiters, monitors progress, and supports related activities.

40% Management

  • Manages the personnel assigned to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Ensures effective and efficient operations in the department.
  • Manages multiple office budgets.
  • Recommends resource investments to support achieving enrollment goals.
  • Ensures full compliance in all recruiting activities, following all accreditation, state, and federal, and university guidelines.
  • Assesses annual unit goals and objectives and sets unit priorities.

30% Coordination

  • Collaborates across the institution in support of achieving undergraduate student success goals.
  • Serves as liaison between the Office of Admissions and other University departments and offices.
  • Ensures recruitment and related marketing plans align with institutional goals and leverage multi-channel communication strategies.
  • Provides regular funnel reports to the Provost and Associate Provost.
  • Serves on multiple university committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provost or Associate Provost.

This position is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • Master's degree with 5 years of related experience in administration of admissions related office
  • Experience developing, leading, and/or supporting recruitment events for middle, high school, and college-aged students
  • Experience with integrated student information systems
  • Current knowledge of enrollment landscape and best practices for communicating with potential students
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative enrollment data for the purpose of developing and implementing strategic enrollment initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience assessing programming activities as part of a strategic enrollment planning initiative
  • Current knowledge of innovative uses of technology in the recruitment process, including a demonstrated ability to leverage multi-channel communication strategies
  • Superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in facilitating organizational development and change
