Culmen International, LLC is seeking a Research & Education Support Specialist to support the Educational and Clinical Research Program for the Defense Health Agency Vision Center of Excellence (VCE) onsite in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Research-Education Support Specialist will support tasks related to clinical/research studies, data analysis, literature research, documentation for educational course offerings, and meeting summaries.

The VCE is a leader in discovering evidence-based information that forms the basis for ocular injury related education, guidance, clinical recommendations, and policy. Its recommendations and products must be solidly grounded in current scientific evidence and sound research. Clinical research and studies form the underpinnings of the forementioned evidence-based products. Outlets for such research include participation in scientific symposia; publication of journal manuscripts and chapters; publication of white papers, information papers, and position papers; and web-based information sharing. VCE studies and analysis projects include a breadth of clinical areas including pre-hospital and pre-ophthalmic zone of care of vision, ocular injury, ocular trauma, nursing, and blind and low vision rehabilitation.



What You'll Do in Your New Role

    Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and team members to plan, execute, and implement projects
  • Conduct literature research, gather, and analyze data, and prepare reports
  • Assist with the submission of grants and manuscripts
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including government staff, advocacy groups, and the public to gather information that supports the tasks/projects
  • Stay informed on current DHA guidelines, VCE policies, and emerging issues and how they impact work on the contract
  • Develop reports and presentations summarizing research findings for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Attend meetings and provide meeting summaries as needed
  • Propose methods for improving the quality of research and team productivity.
  • Create and adhere to standard operating procedures, as well as organization regulations and safety guidelines
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively with other team members to ensure research projects are completed on time


Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust
  • Must be able to pass a Tier 1 background check
  • A bachelor's degree in science or related field. Higher education a plus.
  • 2-3 years of research experience
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously, on time, and with limited oversight
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, SharePoint, search engines, citation management software
  • Experience with 508, writing for technical and lay audiences
  • Experience working collaboratively and cross functionally with stakeholders on projects
  • Ability to work on-site at Walter Reed four to five days a week

The determination of compensation at Culmen International, LLC is based on various factors such as location, the individual's unique combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, clearance level, experience, internal equity, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $63,200 - $79,000 annually. This estimate represents the typical salary range ,for this position and is just one component of Culmen's total compensation package for employees.
