Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Educational Strategy assists with ensuring alignment, consistency, and coordination across the educational curriculum and experiences. This role is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and assessment of educational leadership development initiatives, ensuring that all programs and experiences are cohesive, impactful, and aligned with departmental goals.

Job Description

Typical duties my include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the implementation, execution, and assessment of a comprehensive educational curriculum that integrates leadership theories, practices, and experiential learning opportunities for students leading programmatic initiatives.
  • Ensures alignment and consistency across educational experiences and works to align all programs and experiences to departmental educational priorities.
  • Advises and supports Coordinators in the planning and execution of leadership and educational programs, providing guidance to ensure alignment with department goals.
  • Ensures that all leadership development initiatives are promoted effectively across the campus and to the broader community.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of assigned area including the supervision of departmental employees. Provides guidance and direction to staff involved in department services and programs.
  • Conducts regular assessments of educational experiences and curricula to ensure they are effectively meeting student development goals and departmental objectives.
  • Oversees and implements new educational experiences and initiatives to meet the growing needs of student leadership and success.
  • Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists with developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.
  • Serves on department, unit, divisional, and cross-campus committees to advance leadership and educational initiatives.
  • Creates and fosters a positive community and uses creative and innovative methods to personally connect with campus leadership opportunities, advisors, student leadership positions, and residential students.
  • Maintains accurate records, files appropriate reports, and meets deadlines.
  • Directs, plans, coordinates, and recruits students to attend state, regional, and national leadership conferences.
  • Participates in program research projects and co-author/co-present research findings.
  • Assists with implementation of a variety of assessment activities and retention initiatives to improve student engagement and student success.
  • Integrates leadership initiatives and information sessions throughout the academic year and summer.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure adequate staffing within budget.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of campus-wide leadership programs and activities.
  • Experience with Student leadership advising.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progressive experience in student affairs and demonstrated commitment to working with students through leadership initiatives and groups.
  • Budgeting and involvement with state and regional student leadership conferences.
  • Advising and student leadership programming development experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience working with learning communities and faculty members.
  • Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of FERPA.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to implement new systems and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
  • Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.

Pay Grade 17 (Starting at $49,800)
