Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Graduate Assistant in International Student Services reports directly to the Director of International Student Services and works closely with the Director to provide services to the International students and to carry out the day-to-day operations of the office as directed. The Graduate Assistant assists the office management with University compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, maintains office databases, assists with developing reports, and provides help to international students with the scope of his/her knowledge, training, and duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Work closely with the Director and ISGSS staff to implement the goals and mission of the office and efforts to continuously improve quality of service.
-Assist Director and ISGSS staff in planning, development, and implementation of information tracking strategies for SEVIS required data.
-Manage front office communications and coverage (walk-ins, phone calls, etc) as well as daily operations.
-Answer student questions related to financial, employment, tax, academic, adjustment, and personal issues as directed.
-Assist with ISGSS orientation and new F1 student check in process.
-Assist students with social security letters, letters of certification, and related matters.
-Assist ISGSS staff with producing and updating informational materials and publications (printed and web based), and appropriate related forms.
-Assist ISGSS staff with planning, developing, and implementing international orientation, seminars, social and cultural programs.
-Manage content and discussion board for Blackboard Extended Orientation course each semester
-Coordinate projects as assigned by the Director.
-Utilize technology and databases to ensure accurate record keeping.
-Assist Director and Staff in monitoring and tracking student data, maintaining files, coordinating student worker tasks and projects
-Review student documents ( OPT, CPT, etc.) and prepare package for DSO processing
-Complete regular training on FERPA regulations and apply to daily tasks
-Assist with ISGSS website and form updates
-Provide services as directed to international students on U.S. Immigration regulations and cross cultural issues.
-Serve as the student leader of the International Student Association ( ISA), plan events, and lead student trips and on-campus events to increase community and a sense of belonging among international students.
-Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in MIS including designing databases preferred, Strong computer skills and experience in a PC/Windows environment including word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), database management (Access), presentation software (PowerPoint), use of internet and electronic mail required.

Personal flexibility, as well as experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships is required. Some evening/weekend work may be necessary. Outstanding analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and cross cultural communication skills required. High aptitude for learning and interpreting highly technical information, regulations, and procedures; the ability to work under pressure, balance multiple tasks, and remain organized amid frequent interruptions.

A commitment to Catholic Higher Education and to internationalization of the campus is required.
