The Position

Wilson Elser is currently seeking a highly motivated Employment/Complex Tort Associate Attorney to join our dynamic General Liability/Employment/Municipal Litigation group. This exciting opportunity allows you to play an integral role in defending the interests of local municipalities and private clients through complex and impactful litigation. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in employment, general liability, complex torts, civil rights law and are eager to take on substantial defense litigation responsibilities in a collaborative environment.

As an Associate Attorney, you will work alongside seasoned professionals in a supportive and growth-oriented setting, gaining exposure to a diverse range of legal issues and a variety of complex cases. This is a fantastic opportunity for attorneys looking to advance their careers and deepen their expertise in municipal litigation, employment law, and civil rights defense.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Independently manage and drive a diverse litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners on complex legal projects, contributing to strategic case development.
  • Handle court appearances, depositions, and hearings with confidence and professionalism.
  • Provide clients with timely and informative status reports, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
  • Address high-stakes issues, including First Amendment rights, police misconduct, and land use matters.
  • Engage in legal research, drafting motions, and preparing for trials.


Qualifications:



  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in the State of New York
  • 3+ years of experience in litigation, preferably in employment, complex tort litigation, general liability and casualty, or civil rights matters.
  • Prior municipal liability defense experience, preferred.
  • Proven expertise in deposition preparation, discovery management, and trial preparation
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a focus on clear, concise legal reporting
  • Strong ability to conduct legal research, handle motion practice, and manage complex legal documents.
  • Ability to travel to client sites throughout Westchester, Rockland County and surrounding areas as well as, NYC and LI, as necessary, ensuring seamless client support and case management

A variety of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands, other business and organizational needs, and other factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for discretionary bonuses. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. This position is considered full-time and therefore qualifies for benefits including 401(k) retirement savings plan, medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

Pay Range
$125,000 $175,000 USD
