Lead Buyer:
The Lead Buyer is responsible for the purchase of assigned commodities to meet production needs and internal specifications. You will negotiate with and manage relationships with suppliers, will complete all necessary transactional work for purchasing, and will address and quality issues related to supplier products.
What you will do as a Lead Buyer:
- Identify opportunities for and implement continuous improvement activities to affect the overall purchasing department's quality, cost, and delivery initiatives.
- Implement and maintain standard work documentation and other Lean procedures to ensure compliance.
- Source and secure quotes from qualified suppliers of assigned materials to obtain most favourable prices, and products/services consistent with quality requirements.
- Purchase products to support Manufactured Products, and Non-Inventory requirements.
- Work with requisitioners and/or varying departments to ensure an understanding of the product prior to order placement.
- Prepare purchase orders, verifying specifications and prices.
- Distribute purchase orders to suppliers.
- Monitor item deliveries and expedite orders as needed.
- Verify receipt of items; resolve any shipping errors with suppliers as needed.
- Authorize payment for purchase; resolve any invoice errors with Accounts Payable.
- Develop procedures to resolve trending errors thereby preventing reoccurrences.
- Reconcile Problem Packing Slips / Bills of Lading / Certificate of Conformance or Analysis and facilitate the return of rejected material.
- Engage in negotiations with vendors on pricing, delivery, service, and quality as needed and within limitations imposed by purchasing procedures.
- Function as an authorized agent of the company with the responsibility to commit company resources through contracts and agreements for the procurement of goods and services.
- Participate in supplier audits. Assist the Quality department in assessing the supplier's ability to meet STERIS quality requirements.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
- 3-6 years or progressive experience in the procurement field.
- OR High School Diploma.
- PLUSthirteen (13) years of experience in the procurement field in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
- Solid understanding of regulated industry.
- Direct hands-on experience in an MRP system environment.
Preferred:
- Professional certification (SPM, CPIM, CSCP).
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
Other:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
- Displays willingness to make timely decisions.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.

Work Schedule:
- This position is based in Point Richmond, CA.
- The schedule is: M-TH (9 hour days onsite), F (4 hours work from home).
#LI-BB1 Pay range for this opportunity is[[$107,000-[[$120,000. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.
