Job Title: General Accountant

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

This position is responsible for providing technical and general accounting assistance to the Assistant Director of Finance. Primary responsibilities include processing the general ledger month-end closing including coordination with internal and external data customers and suppliers, internal and external financial reporting, liaise with finance department contacts and provide support for the Faculty Practice Group (FPG) Departments. Additional responsibilities include performing professional accounting duties such as prepare journal ledger entries, identify and analyze variances of financial data, maintenance, consolidation and reconciliations of financial records. This position requires heavy analytical and communication skills and incumbent will be expected to work under more general supervision and on assignments that are moderately complex and require some judgment to resolve problems and make routine decisions. The Incumbents may be assigned the responsibility of providing training, guidance, and assistance to other employees.

Administrative Duties:

  1. Recording revenue and expenses into accounting ledgers in accordance with FPG and generally acceptable accounting principles and practices.
  2. Creation and interpretation of complex financial statements and reports with thorough analysis of budget variance.
  3. Prepare an analytical analysis for the monthly financials.
  4. Review accounting ledgers on a monthly basis to insure that revenue and expenses are properly recorded.
  5. Provide assistance to Accountants II to assure that they meet FPG and generally acceptable accounting principles and practices.
  6. Manage stakeholder communications dealing with sensitive financial and HIPAA related issues.
  7. Reconcile University accounting ledgers for all departments on a monthly basis to ensure that clearing accounts are reflected accurately. Prepare reconciling journal entries as necessary.
  8. Perform other reconciliations of cash, revenue, claims, and A/R accounts as needed.
  9. Reconciliation of financial reports, balance sheet items, compensation and other information for FPG Departments.
  10. Participation in the budget process:

    • Aid in the preparation of operational as well as capital budgets on an annual basis.
    • Monitor monthly budget variance reporting and analysis


  11. Accounting Liaison

    • Assist management in identifying and communicating their financial management needs.
    • Respond to department, physician and other requests for financial data and interpretation of financial reports, ledgers, policy, and accounting regulations.


  12. Assist in identifying and developing necessary systems to ensure accurate, complete and timely accounting treatment of information.
  13. Facilitate the completion of department policies and procedures.
  14. Completion of various special projects as assigned.


Job Description:


  • Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices
  • A Bachelor's Degree with a major in accounting, business administration or closely related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of professional accounting experience or equivalent is required. Some supervisory and government accounting experience is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of fund accounting and healthcare accounting is preferred.
  • Written communication skills to prepare clear and concise correspondence at a level appropriate for the intended audience; effectively communicate findings and adjustments both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. Knowledge of Syntellis and SQL is preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to act with minimal supervision in problem identification resolution.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage and complete numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of management reporting and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships and to communicate effectively in resolving problems and explaining procedures to co-workers, department representatives and vendor representatives.
  • Skill in keying data into the existing computer system accurately and quickly.
  • Demonstrated skill in financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to reconcile departmental records to system reports.
  • Skill in training departmental personnel in the proper way to complete forms.
  • Working knowledge of University accounting policies and procedures and ability to read and understand University ledgers.
  • Ability to comply with Departmental Financial Policies and Procedural manual.
  • Ability to set and adjust priorities to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with FPG staff and other office personnel and with outside departments.


Required:


  • 5-8 years of general accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.


Shift:


  • Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 17:00)
  • Monday-Friday, 8-5
