Strategic Portfolio Manager - Transformation

We are looking for an experienced and strategic Transformation Portfolio Manager to help oversee and optimize the Risk/Human Capital Transformation Project Portfolio by ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, driving business value, and enabling data-driven decision-making. In this role, you will evaluate and manage initiatives across the project portfolio, work with stakeholders to identify capability or offering gaps and translate them into opportunities; conduct rigorous business case assessments for funding requests, and provide actionable insights for value realization. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical expertise, effective stakeholder management skills, and the ability to deliver concise, high-impact recommendations to leadership.

What the day will look like

Portfolio Management
  • Monitor and manage the **Risk/Human Capital Transformation Project Portfolio** to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and delivery of expected business outcomes.
  • Help to maintain a strategic view of portfolio initiatives; partner with Project Managers and teams to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement through periodic reviews.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage cross-program dependencies, helping resolve critical challenges to de-risk value realization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to mobilize initiatives and allocate resources effectively.
  • Validate KPIs and drive tracking against business case targets to monitor portfolio performance.
  • Support the design and implementation of frameworks to prioritize portfolio initiatives.
  • Stay informed about market trends, business priorities, and risk factors that could influence portfolio performance.
Portfolio Reporting
  • Liaise between project teams, finance, and leadership to ensure alignment and transparency across all stakeholders.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on portfolio performance, risks, and funding decisions.
  • Develop concise and impactful presentations to senior leadership that translate complex analysis into actionable insights.
Opportunity Assessment
  • Evaluate new ideas and innovative concepts to determine their potential impact and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments, including market research, financial analysis, and risk evaluation.
  • Lead internal discovery efforts to assess current state process, technology, and organizational structures and identify business case opportunities.
  • Develop project charters and assist with business case development for viable opportunities.
Value Realization
  • Assist in developing dashboards and reports to track portfolio performance and value metrics.
  • Conduct quality audits of value metrics and work with project teams to address any gaps.
  • Review portfolio metrics and recommend start, stop, or continue decisions to optimize the portfolio.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise in data analysis and research to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills to simplify and visually communicate complex topics effectively.
  • Familiarity with portfolio management tools and reporting platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
Core Competencies
  • Independent and proactive in engaging with stakeholders across varying levels of seniority and organizational functions.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams and personalities with diplomacy and influence.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Preferred Background
  • Past management consulting experience with a proven track record of solving a diverse set of problems across different industries
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic planning, project portfolio management, risk management, or transformation management.
  • Experience implementing value-driven strategies that enhance business performance and deliver measurable outcomes.

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $100,000 - $125,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, Illinois The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
