Position Highlights |
The Department of Public Health Practice & Translational Research invites applicants for the position of Coordinator, Indigenous Outreach. The primary purpose of this position is to enhance the Community Engagement and Outreach Programs' services by engaging and reaching the Indigenous community in Arizona. Under the supervision of the FOCUS grant Principal Investigator and the HIV Coordinator, this role will focus on building relationships, providing health screenings and education, and connecting Indigenous individuals with health or social services. This position will be heavily involved in providing comprehensive HIV/STI testing and screening services. For newly diagnosed HIV-positive participants, the position will ensure linkage to appropriate care services with continued follow-up. For HIV-negative participants, additional services such as PEP, PrEP, behavioral health, or referrals to medical and social services will be provided. Duties & Responsibilities |
HIV & STI Screening/Testing & Education:
- Provide health screening/testing services throughout Arizona with a focus on HIV and STI testing
- Conduct brief risk assessments and assist users in creating individualized prevention plans based on their results
- Collect and process blood (finger-stick and venipuncture) and STI specimens, preparing them for laboratory processing
- Communicate HIV test results to participants
- Deliver clear, understandable, current, and accurate information to clients, consumers, and community members
Site Coordination and Relationship Management:
- Coordinate with existing and new sites for program implementation
- Build and Maintain relationships with community partners
- Assist with the creation of abstracts and manuscripts
- Participate in conferences and meetings arranged by funders, including travel as needed
Documentation, Reporting, and additional duties:
- Document provided services into multiple databases for the state, funder, and program
- Maintain files and data for reporting purposes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the Community Engagement and Outreach Programs which include driving the mobile health unit or other UA vehicles, assist with set-up and clean-up of events, taking mobile health unit for maintenance checks, etc.
Implement research projects with Cultural Humility :
- Provide tailored project implementation in a culturally humble, relevant, and appropriate manner. Projects may include working with families or schools and traveling to these sites.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of HIV and STI prevention, screening, and treatment protocols
- Knowledge with community health principles and public health best practices
- Knowledge of cultural competency and humility, especially regarding the LGBTQ+ community and marginalized populations
- Ability to conduct HIV and STI tests, including blood (finger-stick and venipuncture) and specimen collection
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide clear, accurate, and empathetic information to clients and community members
- Ability to complete data management, documentation, and report preparation
- Ability to manage crises calmly and effectively, including de-escalating skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple sites, ensuring consistent delivery of services
- Skills in contributing to academic outputs, such as abstracts and manuscripts, and presenting at conferences and meetings
- Strong organizational skills to manage time effectively, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to provide non-judgmental, stigma-free services to diverse populations
- Ability to understand and share the feelings of others, recognizing the struggles and challenged faced by individuals without stable housing
- The ability to understand the assets and challenges faced by the indigenous population.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
