Position Summary
The Instructional Design and Media Production Studio (IDMPS) serves as a new innovation space for the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Our aim is to support instructional innovation across colleges and programs. Reporting to the Associate Director of Instructional Design at The Studio, the Graduate Assistant for IDMPS would be responsible for building and editing course elements designed by the instructional design team and remediating instructional materials produced by UIC instructors and third-party vendors. Graduate Assistants can expect to gain skills and experience in design, accessibility, and learning management systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build online course sites and edit course materials and media.
  • Implement the structure and organization of the course designed by an instructional designer through the building of learning modules, folders, overviews, wrap-ups, etc.
  • Build and edit course elements, including assessments, learning activities, and instructional materials designed by the instructional designer.
  • Apply remediation techniques to attachments created by the instructor or third-parties to improve accessibility of course materials.
  • Add attachments to course sites as directed by the instructional designer.
  • Add hyperlinked materials and tools as directed by the instructional designer.
  • Perform other related duties and assist the team in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a full time Graduate degree seeking student at UIC. Academic record minimum 3.0 GPA.

  • Basic proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard or Canvas.

  • Understanding of accessibility standards and tools for creating accessible content.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate program in education, computer science, project management, design, or a related field.

  • Experience in building learning modules, assessments, and instructional materials.

  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS.

  • Previous experience in instructional design or media production settings.

  • Experience in customer service roles. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and models for creating effective learning experiences.

  • Knowledge of digital learning management systems like Blackboard or Canvas.

  • Skill in identifying and resolving issues in digital systems.

  • Technical proficiency in using basic HTML/CSS for web content.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail (e.g., grammar, spelling) for tasks such as creating closed captioning and developing learning materials.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with only moderate supervision.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.

  • Ability to provide customer service that addresses needs efficiently and fosters a positive experience.
