Description
The Sr. Communications Specialist, Research & Innovation, within the Public Relations and Marketing department will help to bridge the science and research going on at Children's National Research Institute with compelling stories for our stakeholders. Will write, develop, disseminate and edit multiple forms of communication content and activities associated with research occurring at Children's National.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree (Required) Master's Degree (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience 4 years Related and progressive experience (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge Ability to display initiative, work autonomously, and offer solutions to problems. Consistently able to display independent thinking and assume responsibility for projects. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize workload. Displays sound judgment and is able to make independent decisions guided by the business goals of the department and organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including AP Style. Knowledge of MS Office.
Functional Accountabilities Strategic Content Development
- Provide compelling research content that is timely and impactful to targeted audiences.
- Support PR and Marketing teams in the execution of coordinated strategic communication plans.
- Maintain an updated research editorial calendar as well as a timeline of upcoming research studies being published.
- Produce research content across a variety of platforms, including web pages, marketing materials, feature stories, and press releases.
- Manage and maintain fresh research content on the Children's Research Institute website.
- Work with Children's Research Institute to manage and maintain updated faculty profiles and clinical trials named on the website.
Intradepartmental Collaboration
- Schedule and conduct interviews with research faculty, physicians, and academics for the purpose of information gathering and/or writing articles.
- Serve as the liaison between Children's research faculty and the PR and Marketing department, provide insight and updates on new development, recruits, and relevant information to leadership and teams.
- Attend academic and press conferences as necessary with Children's National research experts.
- Provide regular research information updates, through the use of an editorial calendar, to the other Public Relations and Marketing teams, while also providing proactive updates on late breaking developments.
- Attend editorial board meetings to provide insight on upcoming research content projects.
- Establish a network of research experts, ranging from junior faculty to senior leadership, to help breakdown complex information
PR Infrastructure and Planning
- Write clear , compelling prose in different styles, voices, and tones to most effectively communicate to multiple audiences.
- Meet with PR and Marketing colleagues to plan the content of a research document or publication.
- Work with manager to plan and prioritize projects and content for the department's priority service line areas, while also manage and complete non-priority projects in a timely manner.
- Read specialist media and literature, e.g. scientific papers, policy reports, company reports, newspapers, magazines and journals, press releases, and internet resources including social media.
- Follow the Children's National editorial style, serve as an editor on various research content platforms ranging from web content, press and marketing material.
- Meet deadlines set by project managers.
