COPAL, Communities Organizing Latine Power and Action, is a member-based organization established in 2018 to improve the quality of life of Latine families. Grounded in the Principles of Jemez, COPAL is committed to continue building meaningful relationships that transcend both identity and geographical boundaries. Wages

Hourly position at $23.00 per hour.

Benefits

Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), plus eight paid holidays per year and two floating holidays; competitive health plan with BlueCross, BlueShield of MN, dental, and vision insurance offerings: Health Savings Account (HSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employees. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short- and long-term disability insurance. COPAL sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match plus a 2% employer contribution after one year of service and immediate vesting.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as COPAL's Employment and Career Counselor provides an opportunity to empower Minnesota's Latine community through worker rights advocacy, leadership development, career exploration, and job placement. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Facilitating scheduled weekly in-person and virtual intake events.
  • Creating physical files for members seeking to join the worker's center.
  • Ensuring records meet minimum programmatic expectations.
  • Conducting participant skill assessments and referring them for internal support services.
  • Supporting job search and job placement activities and aiding in job retention.
  • Providing interpretation support as needed.
  • Helping program users identify employment options that match their job interests.
  • Providing training on resume writing, cover letters, interviewing techniques, and finding job referrals.
  • Participating in and organizing job fairs to actively recruiting members for the program.
  • Scheduling and following up on interviews with prospective employers.
  • Advocating for renewable energy by engaging with government and education institutions.
  • Collaborating with relevant partners to maintain a database of potential employers in various industries.
  • Working with staff to plan and execute cross-organizational events, grassroots fundraising, new member cultivation, communications plans, digital outreach plans, training, and other issue campaign actions.
  • Supporting monthly orientations so members become acquainted with COPAL's and the worker center's mission and vision.



Who You Are



  • You have at least 2+ years of experience working with community members around employment or the Latine community organizing.
  • You have the ability to initiate conversations with community members and assess and determine community needs.
  • You have the ability to facilitate meetings, training, and/or group gatherings that move people to action.
  • You are accountable and able to follow through, with a proven track record of delivering and completing tasks on time.
  • You are fluent in both Spanish and English.
  • You demonstrate a willingness to learn a variety of tasks, a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices, a serious work ethic, and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • You have the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • You have knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people from lower socioeconomic conditions.
  • You demonstrate skills in conflict management.
  • You are competent in MS Office, including Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You possess strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • You have the ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the public.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
