Wages

$24.00 - $26.00 per hour

Benefits

Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), plus eight paid holidays per year and two floating holidays; competitive health plan with BlueCross, BlueShield of MN, dental, and vision insurance offerings: Health Savings Account (HSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employees. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short- and long-term disability insurance. COPAL sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match plus a 2% employer contribution after one year of service and immediate vesting.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as COPAL's Bookkeeper provides an opportunity to play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting day-to-day accounting functions. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Processing and recording daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, credit card statements, and petty cash on a regular basis.
  • Maintaining records for vendor contracts, invoices, and receipts.
  • Assisting in the month-end and year-end closing processes and ensuring all entries are completed accurately and on time.
  • Preparing and updating general ledger entries as needed for the Controller's review.
  • Maintaining accurate records for financial audits and reports required for grants, donations, and internal reviews.
  • Checking payroll on a bi-weekly basis and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Assisting with employee expense reimbursements and resolving payroll-related inquiries.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations applicable to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.
  • Assisting the Controller with reports for Board meetings, funders, and government agencies.
  • Supporting the preparation of annual financial statements and other documentation for audits.
  • Maintaining vendor W-9 forms and preparing 1099 forms at year-end.
  • Monitoring bank and credit card accounts and preparing bank and other account reconciliations.
  • Posting prepaid, depreciation, and other monthly journal entries.
  • Collaborating with the Controller and finance team to develop and refine financial policies and procedures.
  • Keeping an up-to-date comprehensive database of COPAL's equipment assets.
  • Assisting with annual audit preparation and budget work in collaboration with the Accounting Controller.


Who You Are



  • You hold an associate's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • You have a minimum of one year of bookkeeping experience, preferably within a nonprofit setting. Familiarity with accounting for both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities is a plus.
  • It is preferable if you are bilingual in English/Spanish and are a public notary.
  • You demonstrate strong bookkeeping and organizational skills.
  • You possess excellent computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Office Suite) and have knowledge and/or experience with QuickBooks On-line or similar accounting software packages. Familiarity with Bill.com is preferred.
  • You possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
  • You have the ability to balance multiple projects, meet deadlines, solve problems, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • You demonstrate strong attention to detail and precise data entry skills.
  • You have the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise judgment in handling sensitive issues and interdepartmental needs.
  • You work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team with the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
  • You hold a valid driver's license, have access to reliable transportation, and meet COPAL's driving record requirements. If the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
