Job Title: Electrophysiology Technician (EP Tech) Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Visit us online at: https://www.aikenregional.com Job Overview: The Electrophysiology Technician (EP Tech) works in a specialized role within a cardiovascular team, assisting physicians and other medical professionals during electrophysiology procedures, such as catheter ablations, pacemaker insertions, and other cardiac interventions. The EP Tech is responsible for preparing patients, operating complex equipment, and ensuring the smooth running of procedures to diagnose and treat arrhythmias and other heart conditions. Key Responsibilities:
Assist cardiologists and electrophysiologists during electrophysiology procedures, including mapping and ablation of arrhythmias. Help set up and operate electrophysiology lab equipment, such as electrocardiograph (ECG) machines, mapping systems, and radiofrequency generators.
Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, positioning them, and ensuring they are comfortable. Monitor patients' vitals before, during, and after procedures. Administer medication as directed by the physician.
Monitor and record patient data, including heart rhythms, oxygen levels, and vital signs, during procedures. Document procedural details and patient status for record-keeping and follow-up.
Operate complex cardiac equipment such as electrophysiology mapping systems, fluoroscopy, and defibrillators. Maintain equipment and ensure that it is in proper working order.
Provide care instructions to patients following procedures. Assist in transporting patients' post-procedure and help with recovery monitoring.
Work closely with other healthcare providers, including nurses, doctors, and medical staff, to ensure optimal patient care. Participate in training and education regarding new equipment and techniques.
Follow infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment during procedures. Ensure safety measures are adhered to in accordance with hospital or clinic standards. Certification as an Electrophysiology Technician (e.g., CCT or RCES) Experience: Previous experience in an electrophysiology lab. Skills: In-depth knowledge of electrophysiology procedures and equipment. Strong technical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Work Environment: Hospitals or specialized cardiac centers electrophysiology lab. The work schedule includes day/evenings. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods. Capability to lift and move patients and equipment. Comfortable working in a clinical environment with exposure to radiation (fluoroscopy).
