We are searching for a talented Advanced Practice Practitioner to join our Cardiovascular Team.

Hours: Full-time - based on 44 hours - 24 & 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, weekends and holidays

Shift: Day/evening shifts; weekend rotation

Location: Charlton Memorial Hospital

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a detailed medical history and perform a comprehensive physical examination on assigned patients
  • Perform pre-operative preparation of patients and reinforce information presented by the Attending Physician to the patient and/or

    family as necessary.

  • Coordinate necessary tests, consultations and procedures as indicated or requested by the Attending Physician.

  • Perform postoperative management of adult patients.

  • Manage complex ventilators, cardiac assist devices. Perform bedside

    diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures on adult critical care and cardiac surgery patients as indicated or directed by the

    attending surgeon including, but not limited to: thorocentesis, tube thoracostomy, central venous lines, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, wound debridement and endotracheal intubation. Perform basic and advanced cardiac life support procedures as necessary and direct these efforts until the arrival of an attending physician.

  • Prepare patients for discharge including patient and family teaching, continuing care and rehabilitation arrangements., writing discharge prescriptions and confirming of primary care or referring physician follow-up. Prescribe various pre and postoperative medications for patients in accordance with service policies and/or attending physician instructions.



Qualifications

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelors Degree in a related field is required. Graduate of an A.M.A.-approved Physician Assistant program is required.
  • Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Physician Assistant is required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Current Massachusetts R.N. registration is required.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate/Physician Assistant Certificate is required.
  • Duties require the ability to care for critically ill adult patients with a wide range of medical problems.
  • Position responsibilities require the maturity, self-confidence and ability to follow complex patient management plans as directed by the Attending Physician.
  • Over three years up to and five years of related work experience is required.
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants within one year of hire.
  • Must be qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac support standards.
  • Eligible for state and federal controlled substances registration.
