Position Summary

The Kitchen Aide will prepare and cook meal for clients, and maintain a clean kitchen and dining room. In this position the candidate will also clean and sanitize all food service equipment, dishes, pots and pans. While performing the duties of this position, the candidate is required to stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and hear and talk. This is a regular full time position with workweek expectation of 35 hours per week. Saturdays and Sundays shifts expected.

32 hrs/week, $10.55-$17.16/hour

Sunday (3pm-7pm), Monday - Thursday (7:30am-3pm)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
  • Prepares/assists with daily meals in accordance with the menu plan for the day.
  • Assists with serving meals and dining room operations.
  • Performs inventory control and maintains food pantry with direction from Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Performs daily cleaning duties as determined by supervisor.
  • Carries out routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Assists with and volunteers in the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Understands and supports the Safe Serve guidelines of proper preparation and storage of food products and food handling equipment.
  • Assists with other programs at the discretion of the Corps Officer.
  • Performs dishwashing duties maintaining clean and sanitized food handling items and utensils.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of dishwashing equipment.
  • Sweeps and mops kitchen, hallways, pantries and dining room floors.
  • Removes garbage from containers and transports to the dumpster.
  • Maintains scrap cardboard for recycling.
  • Assists with moving supplies.
  • May assist with serving meals periodically.
  • Other duties germane to the position as deemed by the Kitchen Supervisor.



Working Conditions

There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, with the exception of the occasional emotional distress or turmoil (due to varying situations) with and between staff and/or clients. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home. Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk Level

Risk Level 1 - The tasks or activities conducted by Risk Level 1 workers would involve no expectation of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Travel



  • The incumbent may be required to travel by personal vehicle, organization vehicle or other mode of travel supporting the mission of The Salvation Army.

Reasoning Ability



  • Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.

  • Ability to perform basic math skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages.
  • Ability to prepare budgets


Language Ability



  • Ability to fluently speak read and write in English.
  • Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias.
  • Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses.
