JOB OBJECTIVE

The Training & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs that ensure staff are well-versed in best practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. This role involves designing and delivering educational content, conducting safety assessments, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous learning within the organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Training & Development or Health Care Administration or related field.
  2. Experience working in a senior living community is preferred.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in health care training preferred.
  4. Previous experience in a senior or lead trainer role is highly desirable.
  5. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  6. Must be comfortable speaking publicly in small to large groups.
  7. Must have the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs and be accessible to handle concerns that may arise outside regular work hours.



Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn within 6 months of hire, State and Federal regulations/guidelines for Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) and Resident Care Apartment Complexes (RCAC) applicable to clinical applications/training is desirable.
  2. Familiar with Learning Management Systems (LMS) including materials development.
  3. Experience with various Electronic Health Records, Scheduling Systems, and Payroll/Performance systems is preferred. Background knowledge to teach leadership and employees usage of these systems.
  4. Demonstrates excellent teaching, writing and communication skills with individuals of varying levels of education and computer skill.
  5. Advanced computer skills in instructional development using tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, etc. Familiar with Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  6. Experience in providing constructive performance feedback to facilitate staff development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Assess training needs through surveys, interviews, and performance data to ensure training is relevant and effective. Collaborate with Leadership to assess general, departmental, managerial, and individual employee professional development and training needs.
  2. Design, develop and deliver comprehensive training programs focused on current regulations, industry standards, best practices and organizational policies. Customize training modules based on departmental needs.
  3. Facilitate annual in-services for all staff using an LMS. Identify changes in content/regulations on a yearly basis, develop and assign modules, track completion, provide reports/alerts to Leadership and employees regarding status/completion and provide LMS user support to employees.
  4. In collaboration with the Director of Security and Safety, design, develop and deliver safety training including emergency preparedness, event response, Blood Borne Pathogen and OSHA training.
  5. Develop and provide training for new hires on standard software platforms (ex. Payroll, Performance Evaluation, Scheduling, etc.).
  6. In partnership with the Department Directors, create and maintain standard work instructions and checklists for all non-clinical positions.
  7. Assist the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) with clinical training as needed.
  8. Assist Leadership and Human Resources with creation/implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  9. Track compliance with CBRF training hours requirements, and Licenses and Certifications for all non-clinical employees.
  10. Assist the Chief People Officer with varies training needs i.e., Novare.
  11. Coordinate presentations by outside organizations as needed.
  12. Coordinate delivery of training including scheduling, room reservation and set-up, AV/IT support and refreshments as needed.
  13. Assist with investigating accident reports using Root Cause Analysis.
  14. Comply with all Saint John's safety, security, infection control and hazardous materials policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of department and organization information.
  15. Work cooperatively with residents, families, volunteers, visitors, and all levels of staff to realize Saint John's strategic objectives.
  16. Attend meetings and in-service programs as required.
  17. Plan for continued personal development through formal education, training, seminars, and active participation in professional or related organizations.

WORK SETTING/ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed indoors in a well-lighted and clean building with some exposure to dust. Heat, air conditioning and humidity are controlled by the building's central system with a temperature variance of not more than 7 degrees on either side of the norm of 72 degrees.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Computer, printer, audio-visual equipment, telephone, mobile devices, hand & power tools, ladders & scaffolding, wood shop tools, metal shop tools, specialty tools, forklift, pickup truck, and general PPE.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Physical Strength: Must be able to push/pull/lift to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Manual Dexterity: Must be able to frequently use hands arms for moderately difficult manipulation.

Coordination: Must be able to occasionally perform education requiring good hand/eye coordination and occasionally perform tasks requiring steadiness of motion.

Mobility: Must be able to walk, stand, and sit, to move around the office space, training room and facility.

Speech: Must be able to continuously articulate with extreme accuracy and precision.

Emotional Stability: Must have the ability to continuously deal effectively with the stress created by people in a hurry, collaborating with employees experiencing learning difficulties, and multi-tasking a variety of duties with numerous interruptions.

Vision: Must be able to occasionally see distant objects and see objects closely to read.

Hearing: Must be able to continuously hear normal sounds and voice patterns with some background noise.

Concentration: Must be able to occasionally concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and frequently be able to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption.

Attention Span: Must be able to frequently attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time.

Critical Thinking: Must be able to effectively analyze, interpret information to form a judgement, applying consistent standards and evidence.

Conceptualization: Must be able to continuously understand and relate to conceptualization behind ideas and frequently be able to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts.

Memory: Must be able to frequently remember multiple verbal and written projects given at the beginning of a period extending over extended periods of time.
