Summary

As part of the Health and Safety team, this position will develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures for the Chattanooga manufacturing facility. Responsible to ensure a safe and accident-free workplace. Develops and conducts relevant training programs to support safety and related technical regulations (Hazard Communication, Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, etc.). Works with engineering teams and equipment suppliers to ensure equipment and processes are designed to meet all legal and Volkswagen safety requirements. Leads Skilled Maintenance and Engineering safety initiatives and works closely with all affected parties to enforce and continually improve technical processes.

Responsibilities

* Develop specific objectives and strategies to maintain an effective safety program that complies with federal, state, local and company safety regulations

* Develop, maintain and ensure compliance with the companies Process Safety Management regulation.

* Develop, maintain and ensure completion of an annual Industrial Hygiene monitoring program.

* Ensure the identification and mitigation of risks associated with air contaminants, noise, radiation, etc.

* Plan and implement programs to train Safety Committee "Safety Guide" Team Members in work site ergonomic/safety practices and oversee the full program management

* Review accident and incident documentation to insure all technical safety (electrical, mechanical, skilled maintenance practices, lockout, robotics...) related incidents are complete and accurate; ensure corrective action is implemented to prevent reoccurrence with production, I.E., Planning.....

* Participate in investigating all 'near-miss' and accidents resulting in lost time injuries or major property, liability or equipment damage; produces investigative reports

* Lead and develop all documentation, regulations, procedures related to certification of ISO45001.

* Ensure compliance with the Equipment Buy-Off process for shops of responsibility

* Recommend and enforce disciplinary actions against safety policy violators (contractors, vendors).

* Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and implemented consistently

* Develop and continually improve the effectiveness safety/technical safety regulations

* Work with direct supervisor and the Human Resources Team on all personnel actions related to safety/technical procedures

* Attend CIP workshops and provide expertise for "special cases" on the shop floor

* Resident expert for: Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection,

* Develop and Lead the plant wide safety committee program and continue to facilitate growth and improve the safety for our Team Members by using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) process.

* Perform additional assignments as directed.

Qualifications

Required

* Bachelor's Degree in Safety/Industrial Hygiene or equivalent

* 10 years job-related experience in technical safety & Industrial Hygiene support in a manufacturing or large organization setting

* Specific experience developing and implementing safety best practices in a manufacturing environment including: Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory, Confined Space, etc.

* Experience coordinating with engineering/design/installation teams.

Preferred

Master's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent

Experience with automotive Industrial Hygiene practices, regulations and compliance.

Certification (CSP, CIH)
