This individual will work independently, while under general supervision, to execute key protocols involved in the examination of blood transfusion outcomes using a variety of animal models. This will include, but not be limited to, the isolation and labeling of red blood cells and platelets from a wide variety of unique animal blood donors, tracking red blood cell and platelet survival and evaluation of the immune response to blood transfusion. This will require the use of a flow cytometer, the analysis of flow cytometric data and the analysis of data using statistical software, such as prism. This individual will also be responsible for orienting and training new staff. May serve in a supervisory role in smaller lab.

1. Independently perform routine experiments focused on the characterization of blood cell survival following transfusion into various recipients. This will also require the ability to stain and analyze blood cell and immune populations by flow cytometry, including the analysis of data and generation of publication quality figures. The ability to perform routine molecular assays, such as PCR, will likewise be necessary.

2. It will be important that this individual possesses the ability to calculate, transcribe and analyze data using advanced statistical techniques, including the use of necessary software applications (prism, etc.)
