This is a Temporary Position that will run from May 28, 2025 to July 25, 2025. The working days for this position will be Monday-Friday and some weekends. Pay is $90-$100 per day. MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. SUMMARY: The Head Counselor is responsible for program and counseling leadership for eight Counselors and approximately 75 - 180 campers. The Head Counselor will assist in General Staff Orientation. They will also give support and guidance for camper and staff discipline when needed. The Head Counselor is in charge of implementing all rules to all program staff members during the summer. The Head Counselor will help coordinate evening programming with Camp Leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the duties and responsibilities below the Head Counselor will adhere to and enforce all camp policies, procedures and safety regulations, always making camper and staff safety a priority. They will also know where staff assigned to them are at all times.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responsible for up to eight counselors. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of college preferred and one year preferred previous experience working with children in any setting. Will provide on the job training. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. COMPUTER SKILLS: None required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required. Will provide Safe From Harm training as well as CPR and First Aid training. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass all applicable background checks. English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers. Must live on camp grounds throughout duration of employment.
