Viasat is looking for a creative, bright, and innovative Project Engineer to work at the forefront of what makes us successful. This is a unique opportunity to work with our talented engineers developing and supporting technology programs in Viasat's Aviation business.

We are seeking a Project Engineer to work from the engineering level to the executive and to the client. This role will drive the technical execution for enterprise mobility projects delivering Viasat's In-Flight Entertainment and Communication service. In this role you will facilitate the software development and delivery phase of programs from inception through Entry into Service. The candidate will have experience working with a variety of engineering teams (system architects, systems, software, special test equipment, integration, and test), managing technical risks, meeting commitments, and anticipating and circumventing problems. In addition, you will be developing customer and internal stakeholder relationships as well as working effectively with functional areas within the company. You will be leading, directing, and motivating cross-discipline teams across multiple organizations and geographic sites. The PE works with program management, engineering development and product management teams to help and to improve end to end operational efficiency of engineering domains.

The PE should have a foundational knowledge of theories, practices and procedures related to Project and Systems engineering. The candidate should be able to apply knowledge and skills to complete their assigned work autonomously with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate has a background in Project Engineering, Scrum/Agile, software development or testing, and an attitude centered around critical thinking.

The day-to-day

  • The PE will drive engineering execution of IFEC development projects and service onboardings: facilitate the cross-domain engineering execution of projects / programs, product releases, delivery timelines, and customer success.
  • Support customer onboarding as technical point of contact while seeking to understand customer needs and problems.
  • Work with Devops teams to translate customer needs into technical requirements and solutions across multiple engineering domain teams and providing oversight during the integration testing phase.
  • Assist Program Manager in building, maintaining, and presenting service launch plans and tracking the deliverables, milestones, risks, and dependencies from the cross functional Devops team.

What you'll need

  • 8+ years of proven experience in project or systems engineering development as described above
  • Experience in leadership and collaboration across teams made up of multiple disciplines including internal groups, vendors, subcontractors, and partners
  • Deep understanding and experience with system engineering processes from requirements definition to system verification test activities
  • Proven ability to identify, communicate and mitigate risks and dependencies across the organization
  • Extensive problem-solving skills, and ability to drive resolutions to a close
  • At least 5 years experience leading technical teams on Software development projects
  • Organization skills to handle multiple facets of a large-scale project and to track progress for several programs at once
  • Experience working within Agile Development Frameworks
  • Experience leading project requirements, including change control methodologies
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

Salary range

$119,000.00 - $169,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $148,000.00- $200,000.00/ annually
