The Utilization Management Inpatient (UM IP) Clinical Specialist receives, researches, and takes action related to documentation and requests from a variety of sources related to Inpatient Utilization Management (UM) cases. The UM IP Clinical Specialist does not make clinical decisions, but partners with licensed health professionals on appropriate actions and responses to support efficient and effective clinical reviews. *Additional Skills & Qualifications* * Reading medical records - high level of detailed awareness * (Epic is nice but will training on any system they need to go into) * Health plan experience * Not looking for a medical records department, but open to working with records within a clinical capacity. understand how records are set up and function * Technology friendly * Ideal for a MA or CNA with Hospital experience. Needs a mix of medical records/content/clinical exposure: Can they read it, critically thing about knowing what they are looking at? No license/certs needed but would be nice, if it was someone who was recently licensed, but had lapsed would be good too. Need consistent work history as well as recent and relevant experience. nothing more then 5 years removed with nothing relevant sooner. Disqualifier: only outpatient experience. if that all, then need details on what they specifically were doing. No clinical records experience or understanding. *Minimum Requirements* * Clinical experience, preferably in the inpatient hospital setting. * Strong and effective communication skills, both oral and written. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy of work, confidentiality, and focus on meeting customer needs. * Intermediate computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet search) and experience with health care systems and documentation (EMR, billing and claims). * Preference given to significant prior experience navigating and documenting in an EMR. * Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and coding (CPT, DX, HCPCs). * Strong organization, data entry, and administrative skills. * Ability to investigate and research complex issues and inquiries related to IP UM case work, use critical thinking skills and work with clinical staff to resolve them. UM IP Clinical Specialist would have a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years inpatient hospital experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CMA or CNA preferred.
