The Salvation Army Midland Division Alton Shelter located in Alton, Illinois, is looking for a cook. This individual delivers efficient, nutritious, sanitary, and safe food service in the kitchen, dining area, and delivering to scatter site locations. This is a part-time position, 29 hours per week with starting pay of $17.00 per hour. We are located at 116 E 5th St, Alton, IL 62002 Essential Functions 1. Implement standardized nutritious meal menus using purchased and donated food. 2. Maintain inventory listing of stocked food, perishable items, and kitchen supplies. 3. Order food/supplies within approved budgets to replenish stock inventory. 4. Overseeing the receiving and organizing monthly food deliveries. 5. Lift and carry cooking materials and supplies. 6. Regularly clean kitchen, utensils, refrigerator/walk-in refrigerator, freezers to achieve pleasant, safe, and sanitary conditions daily. Full Job Description available upon interview. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and one year cooking experience. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Able to comply with recipes and safety handling instructions. Medically qualified to work in food service area. Must have and maintain a valid food handling certificate, food managers license preferred. Good communication skills as well as the ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities are essential. Must have reliable transportation, a valid Driver's License and pass TSA MVR check. Physical and Working Conditions Must be capable of performing the above essential duties. Capable of frequently lifting 25 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Will occasionally move 50 or more pounds using dolly/cart/truck. Most work will be indoors in a temperature control environment; however, in the kitchen it will get above 80 degrees at times and cold in the walk-in refrigerator/freezer if so equipped. Employee Status Normal work hours will be determined with supervisor. However, working additional hours including some weekends may be required. |
