Job Title: Financial Education Instructor

Location/Dept: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center

Reports to: Education and Youth Programming Manager

Pay Grade: 203

Pay Range $18.11-$21.74

Position: PT Non Exempt

MISSION

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. The vision of the Chicago Kroc Center is to impact individuals, families, and seniors of the southside while building community, promoting excellence, motivating wellness, teaching character, and encouraging faith.

OUTCOMES

The Financial Education Instructor must have proven skills and techniques and be able to effectively provide instruction in financial education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Class Instruction

    1. Facilitate interactive classes that cover topics such as budgeting, understanding credit, managing debt, saving, investing, and making informed financial decisions.
    2. Deliver pre-established curriculum while adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of participants, ensuring material is relevant to all skill levels.


  2. Maintain a safe learning environment

    1. Provide one-on-one support to participants as needed, helping them work through specific financial lessons and develop personalized strategies for financial stability.
    2. Foster an inclusive, supportive, and non-judgmental learning environment that encourages active participation , questions, and the application of financial principles.


  3. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  4. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
  5. Recognize the spiritual need of individuals which may require referral to the pastoral team.
  6. Perform other assignments as directed.


RELATIONSHIPS

The individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army and in these contacts they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

The individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION



  • A minimum of four years of college with a degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certification in financial education or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience teaching or leading educational programs, preferably in financial literacy.
  • Experience with a computer-based work environment and an excellent working knowledge of Word.

  • Able to report to class promptly and prepared for instruction.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy and good judgment.
  • An understanding of adult teaching and learning, if applicable.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of PC based working / learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • An attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job priorities.
  • An ability to work with confidential material.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.


POSITION LIMITATIONS

This individual will accurately represent the mission of The RJKCCC.

This individual will keep the Education and Youth Programming Manager informed of all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.

This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use equipment used in an instructional program. At times this employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds. The work environment for this position includes a classroom with a low to moderate noise level.
