The Mass General Brigham (MGB) Biobank is a prominent research program aimed at understanding how genes, lifestyle, and environmental factors influence people's health. Biobank Coordinators play a vital role in helping patients make informed decisions about participating in this research program. They assist in educating and recruiting patients from both outpatient and inpatient settings at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH).
Biobank Coordinators are responsible for a variety of tasks, including educating patients with diverse levels of health literacy, obtaining consent, and thoroughly explaining consent forms and procedures to individuals from various cultural and educational backgrounds. Additionally, they are tasked with entering and maintaining patient and survey data. Coordinators collaborate closely with physicians and clinic staff to ensure that recruitment activities are seamlessly integrated into clinic workflows.
As the role evolves, duties may shift based on project demands, funding cycles, and the skill sets of other team members involved. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic clinical research environment, focusing on personalized medicine. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit potential study participants from various clinics at BWH and track recruitment efforts using specialized software.
  • Supports the project manager to implement patient recruitment strategies.
  • Respond to patient and staff inquiries regarding the MGB Biobank.
  • Assist the Project Manager in implementing patient recruitment strategies.
  • Supports collaborating studies with recruitment, collection, and management of study database
  • Support the preparation and shipment of collected samples to the central facility.
  • Aid in the development, organization, and maintenance of the study database.
  • Ensure data validation and quality control and collaborate with Consent Tracking to guarantee proper subject identification.
  • Manage data entry tasks. Support collaborative studies by assisting with recruitment, data collection, and database management as necessary.
  • Suggest improvements to research protocols to optimize recruitment and data collection efforts. Assist with clinic expansion to new locations or sites. Perform other duties as assigned.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    • Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients from varied backgrounds, MDs, researchers, and other team members.
    • Must be able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities to meet deadlines.
    • Must possess integrity to maintain confidentiality.
    • Must demonstrate accuracy in recording data.
    • Must possess strong database management and overall computer skills. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
