Fleet Mechanic A Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a fleet of vehicles or machinery. They diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems, and execute necessary repairs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the fleet. They conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections. They also handle more complex repairs, including engine and transmission work. Fleet Mechanics adhere to safety protocols, maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance, and collaborate with other team members to keep the fleet in optimal condition. Compensation & Benefits: Estimated Starting Salary Range for Fleet Mechanic: $30.00-$40.00 hourly with an additional Health and Welfare Benefit Pay commensurate with experience. Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice. Fleet Mechanic Responsibilities Include:
- Diagnoses, services, and maintains government vehicles and equipment such as off-road vehicles, crawler tractors, forklift trucks, snow tractors, conductor tensioners and pullers, hydraulic cranes up to 50-ton capacity, and various capacity trailers.
- Adheres to manufacturer parts and service manuals, schematics, specifications, and established policies, processes, systems, law, and regulations.
- Performs service calls in the field.
- Repairs breakdowns may occur outside government facility with difficult terrain and weather conditions, and outside of regular business hours or days.
- Performs corrective and preventative, modifications, and preparation for disposal services.
- Changes and repairs tires.
- Maintains fuel station pumps and supply and document fuel, oil, and antifreeze usage.
- Corrects malfunction of internal and external parts and sub-systems for a wide variety of makes and models of two- and four-cycle engines.
- Repairs or replaces power train components.
- Repairs and replaces a wide variety of braking and anti-skid systems utilizing air, hydraulic and electric servo mechanisms.
- Diagnoses and corrects steering issues.
- Performs miscellaneous repairs to the vehicle bodies including tailgate, latches, air conditioning, windows; repair flat tires, mounts and replace tires, deliver, and pick up vehicles, steam clean top and undercarriage, and inspect vehicles.
- Completes overhaul of engines, transmissions, and other major components.
- Assumes responsibility for tools not normally included on the movable property files.
- Tracks conducted maintenance and provided weekly reports.
- Provides record-keeping and documentation necessary to meet government requirements, guidelines, and regulatory compliance.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Fleet Mechanic Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' working experience at journeyman level as a mechanic performing vehicle and equipment repairs.
- Possess Commercial Class A Driver License.
- Systems Maintenance Technician certification from BOMI or AFE, preferred.
- Title 22 California Hazardous Waste Management, preferred
- DOT, Hazmat and Waste Ground Shipper Transportation, preferred.
- Forklift Certification, preferred.
- Fall Protection Certification, preferred.
- Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), preferred.
- Schedule - Four (4) 10-hour shifts, T-F or M-TH, days
