Department Summary

Clinical eSolutions brings innovative technologies, automation, AI and data insights to enable effective, efficient, and compliant clinical evidence generation. We are housed within the Clinical trials Chapter Area that delivers innovative and diverse studies that accelerate and broaden patient access to high-value diagnostic solutions.

This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on site (hybrid).

The Opportunity
Using technology to read and interpret unstructured data hidden in various sources (PDF, Word docs, databases etc.), we have the opportunity to create a fair market value database for many services we outsource during clinical trials, to ensure we are cost effective in clinical trials.

  • Analyze Contracts: Thoroughly review and analyze cost data from contracts in PDF format to extract relevant pricing information for various services we outsource.
  • Data Extraction: Utilize tools and techniques, such as NLP, OCR etc. to accurately extract and compile cost data from diverse contract documents, ensuring all information is correctly interpreted and recorded.
  • Database Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive fair market value database that includes detailed cost information, allowing for efficient comparison and analysis across different products and services.
  • Automation: Design and implement an automated data pipeline to streamline the process of extracting and updating cost data from future contracts, ensuring efficiency and consistency in data handling.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Contracting, Procurement, and Study/Site Management teams, to gather additional insights and ensure the accuracy and completeness of the database.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)
Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
    - Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student) or have attained a Master's Degree.

Required experience and Qualifications:

  • Required knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or R for automating data extraction processes and enhancing data analysis capabilities.

  • Required knowledge of NLP techniques and tools for text analysis (e.g., NLTK, spaCy, BERT).

  • Required experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).

  • Required knowledge of programming languages such as Python and R.

  • Preferred knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.

Required Majors: Computer Science or Data Science/Analytics

Required Skills:

  • Software development and maintenance life cycle

  • Agile methodologies

  • Database concepts

  • Text analysis and categorization related data science concepts such as NLP etc.

  • Programming languages such as Python

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 hourly. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
