Custom Mold & Design, a Velosity Company is hiring a Tool Maker Apprentice on 1st shift to support our manufacturing facility in Forest Lake, MN. The Tool Maker Apprentice is an entry level position, the apprentice role is a position that is given direction from other toolmakers to execute tasks to support the building, service, and repair of molds, tooling and fixtures. Allowing for the growth of skills and understanding of the process and tools used to produce molds, tooling and fixtures.

The typical pay range for this role: $18.00-$25.96/hour

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography, internal equity and other relevant factors.

This position includes a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Other Benefits Include: 401(k) with company match, PTO, holidays, and paid parental leave.

This position will report to the Director of Operations, and has no direct reports.

Schedule: Full-time or Part-time available

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Toolmaking Training and Assistance:
    • Assist in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of tools, molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
    • Learn to use hand tools, lathes, grinders, milling machines, and other precision equipment.
    • Support the team in assembly and disassembly of tooling systems.
  2. Blueprint Reading and Technical Skills:
    • Interpret and work from engineering drawings and CAD models.
    • Measure and inspect components to ensure compliance with specifications.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Check dimensions and finishes using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
    • Maintain attention to detail and ensure all tools meet quality standards.
  4. Machine Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operate and maintain machinery, ensuring proper setup and safe working practices.
    • Clean and inspect machines after use.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
    • Adhere to company policies and standards, including health and safety regulations.

Education/Certification:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Coursework in math, science, or technical fields is a plus.

Experience:

  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of mechanical systems and tools; familiarity with CNC machines or CAD software is an advantage.
  • Physical Ability: Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical skills to troubleshoot issues and suggest improvements.
  • Willingness to Learn: Commitment to completing a structured training program and developing technical expertise.

  • Standing, Walking, Kneeling, Bending, Reaching, Pulling, Twisting, Turning, Seeing, Hearing
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

Work Conditions:

This is a non-smoking, professional tool shop with normal lighting, climate control. The shop environment may be subject to airborne contaminants and chemical odors as would be customary in a tool making and/or molding shop.
