Year Round JOB TITLE: Director of Ski Patrol DIVISION: Mountain Operations REPORTS TO: Director of Mountain Operations LOCATION: Solitude Mountain Resort CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/ Year-Round /Salary POSITION: The Ski Patrol Director oversees and manages all aspects of the Ski Patrol, Bike Patrol, and Avalanche Mitigation departments. This includes overall department performance, staffing, training, budgeting, culture, engagement, scheduling, interdepartmental relations, and guest service. Additionally, the Ski Patrol Director is responsible for managing medical aid, rope rescue, lift evacuation and avalanche rescue. The job requires strong leadership skills, the ability to problem solve, creativity, and the ability to build a positive and high performing team. SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS: 10 years of ski area experience or proven track record with Solitude in the management of people and the administration of tasks and responsibilities comparable to the level of responsibility in this position 5 years in a leadership capacity, ski patrol experience preferred 5 years of avalanche mitigation experience at a class "A" resort preferred The ability to obtain an ATF Responsible Persons permit Possess and maintain a valid state drivers license Possess and maintain a current medical certification at the Utah, or National EMT or OEC level Current CPR certification Expert skiing ability Avalanche Pro 2 certification preferred Be versatile and tolerant of a changing work environment and must be available for a very flexible work schedule to match job needs Possess exceptional professional leadership and team working skills to positively influence staff and the company Possess excellent problem solving skills that allows for efficient and effective resolutions The ability to prioritizing tasks and workload effectively The ability to forecast avalanche hazards, and manage avalanche mitigation efforts, and the control and oversight of explosives, and avalanche rescue. Manage year-round mountain setup and maintenance including trail openings and closures, signage, ropes, and padding The ability to evaluate mountain conditions for hazards and take appropriate steps to mitigate possible hazards The ability to evaluate mountain facilities for hazards and take appropriate steps to mitigate such hazards Manage and maintain Wasatch Backcountry Rescue affiliations Manage and maintain Ski Patrol and Avalanche Mitigation operating procedures Manage the Solitude Mountain Resort Avalanche Rescue Dog Program Manage and maintain Solitude Medical Clinic affiliations Manage and conduct Incident Investigations Ability to testify in court on behalf of Solitude Mountain Resort Possess exceptional listening and people skills and the ability to work positively with a variety of personalities Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills Be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel and must have a strong aptitude for software Be committed to providing outstanding guest service JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strong guest service attitude Be qualified to coordinate and conduct backcountry search and rescues, cliff rescues, high angle rescues, and lift evacuations Set expectations, provide detailed feedback, positive reinforcement, and corrective action when needed for staff Manage job scaling program including budget and staff levels. Oversees testing of candidates to patrol level, forecasting needs for future patrollers Ensure compliance with applicable regulations of appropriate outside agencies including Salt Lake County Sheriff, Unified Police Department, Unified Fire Authority, Forest Service, etc. To perform avalanche mitigation work at the route leader level at a Class "A" resort To manage appropriate signage, rope lines and ski area boundaries To prioritize and order supplies as necessary within budgetary restrictions To manage adequate medical supplies To effectively evaluate on mountain conditions and hazards and take appropriate steps to mitigate such hazards To enforce local and state ordinances as well as the skier responsibility code To manage effective morning and afternoon sweeps ADDITIONAL INFORMATION In the winter, the resort operates seven days a week. Work schedules will include weekends, on call, holidays.
