Job Summary
Under administrative supervision of the School Leader and/or Assistant School Leader and the day-to-day direction of the assigned Lead Teacher, assist the Lead Teacher in planning and providing a stimulating and comprehensive learning environment for infants, toddlers or pre-school children; assume lead teacher responsibilities in absence of the Lead Teacher; perform activities meeting Federal Early Head Start and Head Start Performance Standards and any regulatory standard regarding classroom activity.
Teaching Assistant II shifts and/or duties may slightly vary depending on if the Teaching Assistant II is assigned to one classroom, provides support for multiple classrooms, or "floats" between schools as assigned by ECP Leadership. Teaching Assistants II will be assigned to classrooms based on daily staffing needs and are expected to provide flexible support in a variety of roles as required throughout the school day.
Teaching Assistant II positions have the primary duties of:
- Assist and/or Attend with Home Visits and Family Conferences.
- Assist with all activities related to opening/closing the school, as needed.
- Assist with developing weekly lesson plans.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions of all teaching assistants II positions include
- Comply with the education content mandates of the Head Start Performance Standards, program assessment, and service plans.
- Assist in the daily operations for the classrooms as a sub.
- May assist peers with developing weekly lesson plans.
- Utilize CAP-selected classroom support model to assist with classroom management.
- Attend and assist with home visit and parent conferences.
- Work cooperatively with all CAP employees, Family Support personnel, volunteers and collaborative partners.
- Build and maintain good parent/teacher relationships to encourage parent involvement.
- Assist with required documentation including, but not limited to: Monthly Reports, Attendance, Meal Count, Family Contacts and Child Injury Reports.
- Complete the Lead Teacher's responsibilities in absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Required Education/Experience
3- or 4-year-old Classroom
- Preschool CDA Certificate (or HS Diploma/GED and on IDP to complete a Preschool CDA within 6 months).
- Certificate of Mastery.
- Associate's degree (or Higher) in any subject and have 12 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education.
- Associate's degree (or Higher) in Early Childhood Education or a Related Degree.
- Experience working with Infants, Toddlers or Pre-School Children.
Infant/Toddler or 2-Year-Old Classroom
- Infant/Toddler CDA Certificate
- HS Diploma/GED and on IDP to complete an Infant Toddler CDA within 6 months (EHS Rooms Only)
- Certificate of Mastery.
- Associate's degree (or Higher) in any subject and have 12 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education.
- Associate's degree (or Higher) in Early Childhood Education or a Related field Degree.
- Experience working with Infants, Toddlers or Pre-School Children.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.
Essential Physical & Mental Requirements:
This is a classroom position that requires active supervision, requiring focused attention to look, listen, and engage with young children. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, lifting, squatting, kneeling, crawling, stretching, pushing, and pulling throughout the day. Must have the ability to lift and/or carry objects and children weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and quickly respond to children's needs. Regular and reliable attendance required.
