The Director of HR provides HR partnership directly, and through team members, to functional management teams and employees to influence organizational effectiveness and HR strategy and execute day-to-day HR support on the employee lifecycle, talent and performance management, employee relations, compensation, policies, and programs.
What You'll Work On
* Develop relationships to understand the priorities within the functions supported and translate that to priorities within HR, anticipating and planning for the mid to long term.
* Provide direction, guidance and day-to-day execution in HR operations, compliance, employee relations, compensation, workforce planning, interviewing, talent and performance management and more.
* Analyze business needs, data and trends with business leaders and HR teams to develop and implement proactive strategies and solutions.
* Manage and mentor team members ensuring staff is skilled and effective in meeting business needs. Provide ongoing feedback and development for team.
* Provide guidance and direction to management and team regarding employee relations, performance management, business conduct, corrective action, discipline (up to and including terminations), coaching, and other employment practices.
* May oversee or directly conduct prompt and appropriate investigations in response to concerns and allegations; maintain accurate and confidential records; analyze relevant information; prepare and/or review investigative reports, findings, and works through addressing all relevant issues.
* Work with various departments to build and evolve practices around talent management, organizational effectiveness, and creating high-performing teams. Support groups through organizational change and transition needs.
* Support functional management teams in the holistic view of people, including the identification and assessment of employee strengths and development opportunities; support management in the preparation of development plans to ensure employees are prepared and moved into future opportunities.
* Through team, directly collaborate with hiring management, recruitment, and/or development teams in workforce planning, interviewing and talent assessments to influence key staffing decisions.
* Ensure an effective transition of workforce (conversions, onboarding, offboarding) and operations effectiveness (system workflows, data accuracy, updated agreements, documents, SOPs, and resource materials).
* In collaboration with compensation team, participate in job description reviews, job leveling, pay range evaluations, along with overall compensation guidance and planning exercises; identify compensation issues impacting client groups and work with HR and business leadership to resolve.
* May have specialized functions, regions, or areas of leadership and responsibility within the HR department.
* Lead and support HR-related company-wide and department programs, initiatives and projects.
* Enable a positive work environment while balancing business priorities. Responsible for relevant cost management, purchase orders, invoice reviews, expense reports, etc.
* Effectively communicate HR products, services, programs and policies to management and employees.
* Partner with Legal on policy reviews and employment legislation in order to assist in compliance of employment law.
* Select, manage, train, and develop staff. Establish objectives and assignments and provide ongoing feedback through performance reviews and development plans.
* Adhere to the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures.
* Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company.
* Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures.
* Perform other work-related duties as assigned
What You Contribute
* Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of HR generalist experience, with 5+ years of management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Proven ability to operate with the big picture and anticipate future needs, lead, plan and implement, while being hands-on to day-to-day needs. Able to deal effectively with ambiguity, growth, and change. Nimble and adaptable to changing priorities.
* Demonstrated track-record in HR business partnering, organization development, and change management. Strong experience in HR operations, compliance, compensation, workforce planning, interviewing, and performance management.
* Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues. Demonstrated skills in managing complex employee relations situations and investigations, coaching, and development at all organizational levels; can take negative action, if warranted. Experienced summarizing and documenting high quality investigation reports.
* Excellent professional, written and verbal communication skills. Must be an articulate and persuasive communicator, presenting data and recommendations to leadership and those with dissenting opinions, and to collaborate and influence others.
* Demonstrated strong work ethic, integrity, and ethical behavior. A self-starter that has strong prioritization and critical thinking skills, making sound judgments and decisions.
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize while handling various issues and initiatives simultaneously. Dependably and consistently follows-up and follows through on commitments with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Works effectively with other team members to solve problems and implement solutions. Possesses strong influencing and interpersonal skills with all levels in an organization.
* Able to manage confidential data and be discreet, respectful, and empathetic in the face of difficult and uncomfortable situations.
* Strong knowledge of California employment laws and practices is required. In-depth knowledge and compliance with laws, regulations, HR processes, programs, policies, and systems.
* Solid understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
* MS/MBA and HR Certification preferred.
* Experience in medical device or similar industries, with varied work populations, including a large manufacturing or production workforce is preferred. Experience working with employees and employment laws across multiple states and other countries is preferred.
Working Conditions
General office environment. Willingness and ability to travel to other Penumbra facilities may be required and vary based on organizational responsibility. Must be able to move between buildings and floors and may be required to go into manufacturing clean rooms, requiring personal protective equipment (provided). Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day. Must be able to read, prepare emails, and produce documents and spreadsheets. Must be able to move within the office and access file cabinets or supplies, as needed.
Annual Base Salary Range: $184,000 - $275,000
We offer a competitive compensation package plus a benefits and equity program, when applicable. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
