Essential Job Duties |
Perform initiation, maintenance, maturation, and germination experiments on conifer somatic embryogenic (SE) cultures. Assist with design and execution of SE experiments including maturation and transformation. Troubleshoot and optimize steps in SE protocols to establish robust methods. Assist/train/mentor graduate and undergraduate students on somatic embryogenesis culture techniques, protocols, and experiments. |

Initiate, maintain, mature, and germinate conifer SE cultures. Assist with optimization of SE protocols to establish robust methods for SE culture. Perform experiments on SE cultures including plant transformation experiments using agrobacterium, gene gun, and
CRISPR- Cas9. Gene cloning of target genes and sequence analysis. Execute other proof-of-concept experiments that are related to SE. Contribute to scientific publications by preparing figures and writing as requested. Prepare project progress reports as requested. |
Minimum Experience/Education |
PhD or recently completed PhD requirements, 3+ years of experience in plant molecular biology lab working with tissue culture, transformation, and troubleshooting new study systems. |
Department Required Skills |
Experience working with tissue culture of non-model plants is required. Knowledge of lab techniques involving: microbial culturing and aseptic technique, molecular techniques (
DNA and
RNA isolation,
PCR, cloning), plant transformation techniques. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
At least 5+ years of experience in field-based and lab-based research, knowledge of plant tissue culture, genetics, and plant resistance. |
