Location Site: Salem Hospital Main Campus; 890 Oak St SE, Salem, Oregon 97301 Department: SH Radiation Oncology Position Type: Full Time; 40 hours/week; Non-Exempt Start Time: 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday Your role with us As a Radiation Therapist at Salem Health, you will play a vital role in delivering precise and compassionate care to patients undergoing radiation treatment. You will work closely with our team of radiation oncologists, physicists, and nurses to develop and implement treatment plans, ensuring accurate and effective delivery of radiation therapy. What you'll do
- Administers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed, interprets treatment plans, and maintains surveillance during treatment; accurately positions patients, images as directed, and annotates portal images.
- Observes patients for radiation side-effects, reports findings to staff, and documents treatment using digital cameras; safely transfers patients and performs calculations for emergency treatments.
- Constructs immobilization devices, accurately tattoos patients, handles needles safely, and participates in daily chart rounds to coordinate patient care.
- Documents services provided, daily treatment delivery, and maintains daily treatment schedules; accurately charges for services and includes required elements in documentation.
- Supports safe radiation practices, performs machine warm-up procedures, daily quality assurance checks, and reports malfunctioning equipment; practices ALARA and reports deviations from prescriptions.
- Participates in daily Team Huddles, Debriefs, and meetings; communicates directly with peers and supervisors, promotes team function, and provides feedback as requested.
- Provides clinical instruction to radiation therapy students, maintains student records, and assumes on-call responsibility when scheduled.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment by completing weekly block room cleaning, HEPA filter checks, and fabricating custom blocks; coordinates simulation with clinics to support continuity of care.
Background/experience
- Successful completion of accredited Radiation Therapy program required; Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy preferred.
- ARRT National Radiology License required 6 Months from date of hire.
- Basic Life Support via AHA required 6 Months from date of hire.
- Minimum of one (1) year Radiation Therapy experience preferred.
- Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) State licensure required.
- Basic operations of Linear Accelerators: Varian Truebeam, Varian Edge & GE Lightspeed CT preferred.
- SBRT, SRS, HyperArc, Identify and Breathhold & Gating Visual Management
- Aria 11.0 and basic Microsoft Word knowledge.
- Above average communication and human relation skills; ability to relate well with others. Must demonstrate ability to empathize with patients dealing with death and dying issues.
- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate.
- Must demonstrate ability to interact well with all levels in the organization including leadership, medical staff, and front line staff.
- Strong time management skills, decision-making, and problem solving skills required; Fast pace environment treating; 70-95 patients per day on three treatment machines.
