About the Job

With the explosion of healthcare data and new software applications, Data Strategy has emerged as a key strategic initiative for the Department of Anesthesiology. The Clinical Analytics Director for the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Minnesota Medical School, closely collaborates with departmental leadership to develop and implement operational strategies and tactics to support world-class patient care, education, and research. This individual, reports to the Department Head of Anesthesiology or designee and works with other Medical School departments, the ALRT Administrative Center, UMPhysicians, Fairview, and affiliated hospital partners to achieve common goals and overall institutional success.

The individual chosen for this position will have experience in process engineering, process improvement, financial operations, internal auditing, financial controls, quality assurance, supervision, as well as the leadership skills, innovative thinking, and ability to work in a fast paced, complex environment with multiple partners and stakeholders. In close collaboration with Department Leadership, you will help diagnose and roadmap the data strategy journey as you design, build and operate strategic capabilities that allow the department to remain agile under pressure.

How you will make an impact
You will drive business value by leveraging data analytics to facilitate more informed decision-making, reveal bottlenecks and uncover potential growth opportunities. You will oversee the integration of new technologies and initiatives into the developed data strategy. With responsibilities spanning data operations, data quality management, driving business value through data analytics, and ensuring data governance and security, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the department.

You will work with department leaders to identify data assets and build a plan that weaves the role of people, processes, and technology to that can help them improve current operations and forecast future needs and trends. You will understand and manage staffing models for coverage of Operating Rooms, Acute Pain, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Perioperative Assessment Center (PAC), and Chronic Pain sites across various clinic, hospital, and outpatient surgery centers, ensuring high quality patient care. Your data analysis will enable strategic planning regarding staffing levels, compensation models and incentive plans. Your technical aptitude will allow for an optimized physician schedule in Qgenda that supports the department's staffing strategies.

What you will do:
Data & Analytics
* Serve as Subject Matter Expert to leadership in project proposals, stakeholder discussions, thought leadership, where data expertise is needed
* Your job is to make sure that department data is being put to work, making you responsible for ensuring that critical business decisions are backed up by solid data
* You will take a deliberate, and objective, look at the department through the lens of data and anticipate what leadership needs so that they are empowered to effectively use data
* Data integrity - needs to be clean, consistent, correct and consumable
* Work with department leaders to identify data assets that can help them improve current operations and forecast future business needs and trends.
* Analyze the data to find information that will help drive high-quality business decisions.
* Build dashboards, reports and data visualizations to communicate findings to business users.
* Transform data into information that can be easily visualized, interpreted, and converted into actionable insights.
* Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, etc.)
* Optimize and enhance existing reports to improve data accuracy and visualization effectiveness.
* Perform data analysis and ad-hoc queries to support business decision-making.
* Build consistent, well-defined and documented definitions for metrics and KPIs and ongoing reporting and analysis of monthly results (variance to expectations, trending, KPIs, etc)
* Create a monthly results package for executive leadership and operational teams, with a focus on providing relevant insights that drive business decisions
Process & Technology
* Build and maintain essential technical knowledge of QGenda, becoming a source of knowledge and expert on new product features
* Participate in ongoing planning, implementation and optimization of automated workflows to maximize the value of Qgenda
* Integrate data stuck in silos to operate from "one source of truth"
* Increase user adoption of technology and ensure effective tool utilization
* Streamline operations and improve stakeholder relationships with data

Who you are:
The successful candidate will be collaborative, self-starter, and outcome focused with strong technical experience and business acumen, reporting and analytics. In addition, the following are desirable:
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and operational data into actionable insights
* Ability to translate unstructured problems into actionable processes and approaches
* Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large amounts of data
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical financial and operational information to non-financial stakeholders
* Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Initiative to gain insights and implement process improvements and efficiencies where needed
* Strong leadership skills (planning, communication, relationship building, influencing, educating)
* Adept at moving quickly between low level execution and high-level strategic technical planning
* Proactive in identifying and solving problems and build sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence
* Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse range of responsibilities and projects and troubleshoot and resolve issues along the way

Qualifications

What you bring:
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Computer Information Systems or other related technical field of study with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
* Expert experience with Excel including the development of data models, use of pivot tables, joining and consolidating data, charting data, and the use of complex formulas.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze, design, and optimize complex processes
* Proven ability to effectively manage complex situations, including the ability to analyze problems, identify potential solutions, and develop and implement strategic plans to achieve desired outcomes.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage up, including the ability to understand the goals and priorities of executive-level leaders, communicate with them in a clear and concise manner, anticipate their needs, and provide support and assistance to ensure their success
Preferred Qualifications
* SaaS/Software technical configuration and service experience, especially Qgenda
* Experience/exposure to the Healthcare domain
This position will be remote, though there are some in-person expectations for trainings/seminars, and 1 day/week in office.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $160,600-$170,600/annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
