CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The purpose of this position is to provide direction and advice, based upon exceptional competence and mastery in taxes, on all aspects of the Company and its subsidiaries' operations with respect to known, potential, or possible tax affects, including novel and/or non-recurring situations, as such relates to the Company's State & Local operations. The Director of State & Local Income Taxes will lead the Company's state and local income tax compliance, planning, and audit functions. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in state and local tax laws and regulations, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex tax issues. The Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and optimize the company's tax position.

In addition to the above, this position is also responsible for:



  • Prepare & review State & Local yearly & quarterly tax provision calculations and schedules in accordance with ASC 740, including SALT current & deferred provision, SALT tax reserve analysis, and ensuring accurate reporting of SALT taxes in the financial statement.
  • Assist the audit group in responding to Information Document Requests for ongoing State & Local income tax audits by providing supporting calculations and documentation. Identify amended return adjustments and work with jurisdictions and/or Audit Group to recognize. Manage open year return status and calculations in preparation for amended returns.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of complex worldwide, unitary, and separate company State & Local income and franchise tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions, along with research and implementation of new legislation. Includes identifying and calculating income tax cash conservation / deferral to effectively and accurately manage cashflow.
  • Direct the calculations for State & Local income tax modifications, tax credits, and apportionment. Identify new opportunities and implementation plans based on new legislative developments and requirements, along with analysis & review of Company operations.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilities and optimize tax positions.
  • Monitor the operations of the domestic corporate structure to ensure that they are compliant with the Federal, State and Local Income tax rules and regulations. Review nexus, transfer pricing / inter-co activity, monthly financial statements, and the impact of finance transformation updates on the domestic legal entity hierarchy. This also includes the impact of acquisitions and mergers on the domestic group.
  • Identify & implement automation & standardization of tax workpapers and processes to streamline tax compliance & accounting while focusing on creating consistency to minimize risk.
  • Work closely with other departments, including finance, legal, and operations, to ensure alignment on tax matters.
  • This position is responsible for the supervision of other tax professionals including a Tax Managers, Senior Tax Analysts, Tax Accountants and a Tax Intern.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:



  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field.


Preferred:



  • Certified Public Accountant
  • License to Practice Law
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or Taxation


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:



  • 11 years' experience in Direct Tax Compliance & Reporting


Preferred:



  • State & Local Tax areas of experience including transfer pricing and effective tax rate calculations.
