MedStar Health is looking for a Medical Imaging Technologist to join our team!

As a Medical Imaging Technologist, you will provide health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation or intervention by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Work is performed under the general direction of the Supervisor, Manager, or the Director of M.I.

Primary Duties:

  • Operates and documents all aspects of Radiology. Verifies that the patient has consented to the procedure and fully understands its risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up. When appropriate, verifies that a written or informed consent has been obtained. Provides patient information. Prepares patient for procedure; providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Practice aseptic techniques. Immobilizes patients. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Selects and operates imaging equipment, and or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures. Monitors patient during procedure. Responsible for following established procedures and protocols and producing accurate results. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and image labeling. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Dates, initials, and signs archives all required documents.

  • Checks and orders supplies. Participates in data collection for department's quality assessment and improvement plan. Reports equipment failure/problems in a timely manner to supervisor/ lead person. Assists in training and education of employees, physicians, students, and/or other healthcare professionals. Provides input for purchase of new equipment and supply decisions Provides input for hire or new employee through peer interview process. Assist in control of inventory and purchasing of supplies for assigned area. Provides patient education as needed. Maintains knowledge of and observes universal precautions. Access, manipulate, store and Create CD's from PACS. Applies principles of radiation safety to minimize exposure.

  • Checks drug supplies and informs the appropriate person of what needs to be re-stocked. Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates' action. Attends continuing education programs to maintain certification. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department.

  • Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Ensures patient safety and minimizes patient exposure to radiation. Responsible for following all protocols to ensure optimum image quality, including choosing proper film size, collimation of radiation beam, correct technical factors for appropriate anatomical structure, and use of automated features.

  • Transport stable unmonitored ED patients to and from Ultrasound procedures. Transport stable unmonitored IP as available and needed. In agreement with state statute(s) and/or where institutional policy permits, prepares, identifies and administers contrast media and or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Able to utilize film cassettes with wet processing if computer systems are down. Assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic, specialized interventional procedures. May perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as appropriate and consistent with applicable state statutes. Assist M.I. front desk in answer phones, signing out image CD's, processing paperwork and scheduling procedures as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Radiology Technology program.

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).

  • CPR within 90 days.

  • Associate's degree in Radiology preferred.

  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred

  • Experience with RIS/PACS preferred.
