Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH (tenapanor). Ardelyx has agreements for the development and commercialization of tenapanor outside of the U.S. Kyowa Kirin commercializes PHOZEVEL (tenapanor) for hyperphosphatemia in Japan. A New Drug Application for tenapanor for hyperphosphatemia has been approved in China with Fosun Pharma. Knight Therapeutics commercializes IBSRELA in Canada.
In this newly created role, the Legal Operations Specialist will be responsible for managing the contract request process and work cross-functionally to administer the contract management system. In addition to reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, the Specialist will work closely with the SVP of Legal and other Legal team members to provide other operational support including process optimization, knowledge management, vendor management, data analysis and reporting, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the pharma or biotech sector, with the ability to adapt in real time to shifting demands.
Responsibilities:
Among other duties, the successful candidate will:
Contract management:
- Oversee end-to-end contract management and ensure continuous improvement, including to manage workflows, ensure efficiency, and report to stakeholders
- Draft, negotiate, execute, renew and track a high volume and wide range of legal contracts typical in a biotech organization
- Opportunity to research, assess, recommend, implement and maintain contract management software that meets the needs of a growing organization, ensuring migration, scalability, security and integration capabilities
Operational Support
- Develop and manage knowledge management tools and strategies for the Legal team and other key stakeholders, including creation and implementation of processes, procedures and best practices for knowledge management, establishment of repository of templates/playbooks, forms and other work product
- Provide day-to-day support, including effective documentation and training for all legal software systems and business process automation and optimization
- Analyze legal department metrics and report to Legal leadership providing insights and recommendations to improve productivity, cost-effectiveness and overall performance
- Participate in industry organizations and actively seek ways to build a robust benchmarking and performance assessment program and identify new strategies and models for the delivery of legal services.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years' experience in pharmaceutical contracting lifecycle management, with strong preference for CMS implementation experience
- Must have experience negotiating and executing pharmaceutical contracts with preference for playbook drafting experience
- Experience in legal operations and risk management, including creating and managing continuous improvement through efficient processes and the assessment and use of various e-tools
- Strong understanding of business drivers and the downstream impact of various processes on other functional areas
- A preferred candidate is one who wants to develop professionally by learning about new subject matters and thinking strategically
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership, highly collaborative with the ability to independently and effectively manage a substantial workload in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
- Ability to travel periodically as needed

The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $120,000 - $147,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
