About the Job

Research in the Minnesota Alcohol and Pain Lab broadly relates to the bidirectional association between alcohol use and pain, including acute and chronic effects of alcohol on pain experience and the effect of pain on alcohol use and risk for alcohol-related consequences. The incumbent in this position will provide critical human laboratory and clinical/translational research support for a variety of relevant research projects, and they will develop professional skills in the areas of project coordination, pain psychophysiology, psychopharmacology, and cognitive/behavioral neuroscience. Specific duties include:

Research protocol support (75%)
* Track participant status from initial contact to protocol completion
* Conduct sessions for studies related to pain, substance use, and their interaction, including but not limited to screening, eligibility determination, questionnaire administration, behavioral testing, drug/pregnancy testing, alcohol dosing, and magnetic resonance imaging (note: study sessions may occur on weekends and/or evenings for some protocols)
* Act as liaison for study participants for purposes of study recruitment, scheduling study sessions, managing human subject payments, and related issues
* Review data collection forms for completeness and accuracy
* Assist in training new laboratory personnel (including postdocs, staff, and students) in the above

Research administration and compliance (15%)
* Assist in data storage, entry, and verification for ongoing research efforts using paper and electronic records
* Assist with preparation and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, revisions, continuing reviews, etc.
* Aid with internal audits of study-related data and documentation to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance
* Facilitate effective and efficient communication with study sponsors, monitors, department,
University, and hospital staff on an as-needed basis

Research Support (10%)
* Assist with grant writing, manuscript preparation, and data analysis on an ongoing basis

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

* BA or BS in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field, OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years--at least one year of prior experience conducting alcohol and/or pain-related research with human participants.

Preferred qualifications include:
* Experience presenting research at scientific meetings and/or publishing in reputable academic journals.
* Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools including, including R, Jamovi, SPSS, REDCap, Qualtrics, etc.
* Familiarity with programming and scripting languages relevant to scientific computing (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R, Arduino, etc.)

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $24.70-$26.24/hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
