Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Assistant I for the department of Student Affairs. Under the direction of the Business Manager, the Business Assistant I assists in planning, organizing and directing the financial and administrative functions of the Recreation Department.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Ensures sound fiscal administration of all monies received monitors and reconciles all cash, checks, and credit card receipts for all department locations.
- Makes certain daily cash journals are properly prepared, entered into the accounting system and deposited according to university policy.
- Oversees key aspects of the payroll process for part-time hourly and work-study employees.
- Responsible for all accounting activities related to the various types of income and expenses generated by the diversified operations of Rutgers Recreation, including proper recording in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Analyzes information and data, makes recommendations, and prepares required and ad-hoc reports.
- Promotes inclusive ways to advocate for the needs of all students.
- Provides additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Requires two years' experience in accounting, or relevant equivalent experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- The ability to use the computer to develop spreadsheets and relational databases is essential.
- Work must be performed accurately in a high-volume business without jeopardizing the integrity of the financial accounting system, be able to supervise part-time employees, and be conscientious about meeting deadlines.
- This position requires a detail-oriented, systematic, and exceptionally well-organized individual who must be able to manage multiple priorities that may change frequently and have good problem solving skills.
- Must possess good customer service skills, the ability to anticipate problems; be flexible and able to respond to emergencies posed by colleagues in a calm and congenial manner.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats, including establishing rapport, drafting clear and concise professional correspondences, and explaining policies, procedures and ideas effectively to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
