Responsibilities

Position Overview:The Data Architect will spearhead solution development and client engagement for modern data analytics platforms within federal agencies, positioning our capabilities to capture new opportunities and expand our footprint. You will define and champion the vision for Enterprise Data Warehousing, Big Data, Cloud-Based Analytics, BI & Analytics, and Enterprise Data Management, demonstrating its value in addressing specific agency needs. This role involves proactively developing comprehensive data strategies - including data lifecycle management, governance, and security - and architecting forward-looking solutions, particularly those supporting AI/ML initiatives tailored to agency missions. The Data Architect will collaborate with agency stakeholders, business development, and internal teams to design scalable, secure, and compelling data systems that facilitate data-driven decision-making and secure client buy-in. While focused on architecting solutions for growth, you will also provide expert architectural oversight on select key projects ensuring alignment with the proposed vision. This role requires significant contribution to thought leadership and best practices to bolster our reputation and influence within the federal data community.

Responsibilities:

    Define, establish, and drive the roadmap and vision for modern data analytics platform architecture, delivery, and lifecycle management, including the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Big Data, Cloud-Based Analytics, BI & Analytics, and Enterprise Data Management.
  • Architect and oversee multiple aspects of an end-to-end data strategy, including data lifecycle management, governance, security, transactional data processing, data integration, advanced analytics, and data engineering best practices.
  • Architect data solutions that support AI/ML initiatives, including data pipelines, data storage, data quality, and data governance frameworks; design data architectures that enable efficient data access, processing, and feature engineering for AI/ML applications.
  • Understanding of how AI/ML workloads impact data infrastructure requirements (e.g., scalability, performance, security). Lead cross-functional teams of Software Engineers, Data Architects, Data Engineers, Infrastructure Architects, Cloud Engineers, SecDevOps Engineers, Test Engineers, and Business Analysts to design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions.
  • Lead and contribute to technical proposal development, including solutioning sessions, and support business development through lead identification, qualification, and capture strategy alignment.
  • Develop a scalable and actionable vision for how data engineering can support business expansion and REI's overall growth strategy, aligning technical capabilities with market opportunities.
  • Generate thought leadership content, aligning with REI's technology strategy, and influence customers, employees, and partners through whitepapers, presentations, and industry engagement.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration within REI, mentor senior technical staff, and drive a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data management and analytics platforms for Federal agencies.

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in cloud-native data architecture, , and enterprise systems engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience with data mesh concepts and frameworks, with a strong understanding of its principles and implementation patterns.

  • 5+ years leading and developing technical proposal responses, including solution architecture, whitepapers, and competitive differentiators

  • Proven expertise in Data Engineering, Data Management, Data Governance, and Data Strategy, with a track record of implementing scalable and secure data ecosystems and at least 2 years of experience with Big Data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Palantir.

  • Deep understanding of AI and Machine Learning, including practical applications for automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent decision-making.

  • Strong knowledge of federal regulatory compliance frameworks, data security policies, process improvement methodologies, and risk management best practices.

  • Experience supporting capture, sales, and business development efforts is highly preferred.

  • Strong ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders, translating complex concepts into actionable insights.
  • Proactive in staying ahead of emerging technologies, data management trends, and AI/ML advancements.

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is required.

  • At least one cloud-based data certification is required (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer, Databricks Certified Data Engineer, or SnowPro Advanced: Architect, or Snowflake SnowPro Core) to demonstrate expertise in modern data platforms and architectures

Clearance: Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is required.

Location: Hybrid (1 Day per week in our Sterling, VA HQ)
