DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Occupational Health Intern, you will support the Pennsylvania Occupational Safety and Health Surveillance program with research activities and data collection. Your duties will include assisting in drafting occupational health-related manuscripts. You will accomplish this by conducting literature reviews, writing background sections, and creating data visualizations using software programs. You may have the opportunity to attend and present findings at conferences and meetings. You will be tasked with developing outreach materials for target worker populations based on findings. As an intern, you will support supplemental lead surveillance by conducting phone interviews with employees who have high blood lead levels to identify possible workplace and non-workplace sources of lead exposure. Additionally, you may be given an assignment to support the public health emergency response mission of the Department of Health.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Summer internship with flex hours, 20 to 37.5 hours per week.
  • Internship will start May 2025 and last 3 to 6 months. There is a possibility of an extension.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree program or higher.
  • Good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
