Position Summary:

Experienced operations role that oversees the procurement of components, Ames merchandise, TapeTech merchandise and Ames private label products. The Senior Buyer must maintain supplier relations for production components and Ames private label products that are distributed through the Ames Service and Distribution Centers.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Building and maintaining Supplier Relationships
  • Procurement of components, TapeTech merchandise and Ames private label products. Managing forecasts to ensure timely delivery of all needed products.
  • Responsible for conducting and communicating of supplier analysis
  • Responsible for obtaining and sourcing cost reductions of parts
  • Manages quality and lead time improvements with suppliers
  • Sourcing of suppliers as needed
  • Responsible for Inventory evaluation and turn over goals.
  • Participation in budget planning
  • Responsible for conducting and communication of Inventory stock analysis,
  • Calculating orders for TapeTech Merchandise and Private Label products
  • Monthly Purchasing and Inventory Reporting
  • Replacement Cost Maintenance
  • Support the selection and managing both domestic and international logistics of purchased items

Basic Qualifications:



  • Understanding of General Accounting Practices and working with Budgets
  • Understanding of the Lean Principles and how they apply across Enterprise
  • Strong Excel and Word Software skills, good Microsoft office skills.
  • Basic knowledge of material design/blueprints.



Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; in addition to 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven experience in selecting and sourcing both domestic and international sourcing and ongoing vendor relationship management.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certified Purchasing Manager through the Institute of Supply Management preferred.

Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment 80% of the time.
  • Will frequently move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
