Optum's EHR Services is a clinically oriented health IT consulting group within Optum. We have a holistic approach to the implementation and optimization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and associated clinical technology solutions. The approach includes clinical workflow redesign, technical solution design, stakeholder engagement, education, and reporting capabilities to help health systems prepare for and thrive under value-based and risk-based models by focusing on three constituencies critical to care delivery: providers and their care teams, patients, and payers.

Our EHR Services practice continues to grow our comprehensive health informatics services capability using the collective expertise of our clinical, consulting, delivery, technology, and operations teams. The Health Informatics team assists our clients both internal and external in their efforts to solve challenging issues while delivering excellent results. We have a unique opportunity to engage directly with our clients and participate in creating and implementing solutions.

We are seeking an experienced clinician and health informaticist with good EHR and clinical solutions expertise who wants to be part of an innovative and forward-thinking team. Solid candidates for this role will be able to demonstrate self-motivation, individual leadership, and team collaboration.Most importantly, our team members will foster a culture of diversity and inclusion and drive innovation for our organization and our clients. This position will play a key role across the clinical transformation of the organization, leading various projects and programs, proactively looking for efficiencies and workflow enhancements, participating in clinical governance councils, and mentoring other team members.

While serving as the health informaticist, you will participate in clinical technology optimization efforts across the organization and operate as the clinical liaison for both the client and Optum. You will support clients in various endeavors including workflow adoption and optimization, improving workflow efficiencies, reducing documentation, enterprise quality programming, and technology/EHR innovation. This position is also responsible for the planning, designing, training, and supporting the implementation of a new product ongoing utilization and optimization.

Primary Responsibilities



  • Utilize data, industry trends, and best practices to support the development of consulting methodologies that will address current challenges facing health systems related to the adoption and use of health IT as well as driving achievement toward client-specific organizational objectives and strategic goals
  • Assess opportunities for technology improvements with data in collaboration with clinician feedback to understand workflows, define problems, and recommend and implement clinical solutions
  • Collaborate with client in the creation of business cases for new technologies or technology projects, including cost/benefit analysis for system selection efforts and budget considerations related to technology
  • Support the development and adoption of standards for evidenced-based care practice and collaborate with the training team to create education or training materials as appropriate
  • Serve as the client clinical informaticist for optimization solution implementations, including activities such as defining clinical strategy, leading client meetings, recommending best practice EHR and product configurations, attending clinical governance councils, and advising on training for providers and adoption approach
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans (including resource assignments, schedules, dependencies, etc.)
  • Identify relevant stakeholders and build communication strategies to ensure project deliverables are on time, within budget, and meet desired outcome metrics Identify, escalate, and mitigate project risks and issues, communicate project status, and navigate changes in project scope, resources, or timeline to ensure that the project sponsor is satisfied with project results
  • Provide coordination amongst multiple parties (clients, vendors, external partners, and Optum) to bring alignment and shared understandings of project scope, timelines, milestones, and expectations
  • Utilize data, industry trends, and best practices to support the development of consulting methodologies that will address current challenges facing health systems related to the adoption and use of health IT as well as driving achievement toward client-specific organizational objectives and strategic goals
  • User acceptance testing including development of scripts and execution, both internal and external clients
  • Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client's ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
  • Provide action plans for areas where performance is not tracking to target
  • Mentor current informatics team to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues), and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to achieve best practice performance specific to clinical workflows
  • Implement best practices and improve operating efficiencies
  • Collaborate with clinical, technical, and operational leadership to enhance select products / solutions
  • Implement appropriate service delivery models for relevant application functions in defining, delivering, and improving services for the organization
  • Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, members, and other staff
  • Collaborate on process improvements within the EHR Services team and participate in process improvement efforts

Required Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of relevant informatics experience utilizing data to drive outcomes, improve experience, and efficiencies
  • Proven experience with EHRs and clinical solutions (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health, 3rd party integrated solutions)
  • Experience working with fully remote project teams and leading projects to successful completion
  • Experience at fast-paced and agile company, managing multiple projects concurrently Strong communication and relationship management skills with experience working across all levels, from administrative to executive
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Visio, Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools for managing projects and deliverables
  • Technical aptitude to fully understand and acquire the necessary knowledge required to effectively collaborate with team members on any project
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and influence others, including working across different groups to drive commonality and reusability in solution design
  • Ability to travel up to 50% annually, USA domestic locations; Travel may be lower depending on project requirements



Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of clinical experience e.g., RN, RT, MA. APP
  • 2+ years of case management or acute experience

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
