Facilities & Grounds Technician II

The Jackson Laboratory is currently seeking a Facilities & Grounds Technician to join our team for year-round work at our Bar Harbor facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the grounds, parking lots, and natural landscape around our facility to a high standard, as well as facilitating the movement of office furnishings, laboratory equipment, event set up and the removal of trash/recycling from campus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains campus grounds year-round including, but not limited to: landscape installation projects, lawn care and maintenance, parking lots and walkway maintenance, and snow & ice removal.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks up to individual skill level across the entire campus such as: light bulb and ballast replacement, irrigation repair, small carpentry jobs, sign installation, equipment repair, and painting.
  • Assists with the handling and transportation of materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to: Skid-steer loaders, 1-ton dump trucks, trash truck, ride-on lawn mowers, chainsaws, and plows & sanders.
  • Provides on-site guidance and leadership to contractors or small work crews as designated by supervisor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in properly identifying plant species on our 150-acre campus.
  • Planting, pruning, and fertilizing of trees, shrubs, and flowers in formalized areas on campus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent.

  • Knowledge of proper use of mechanical equipment required for completion of assignments.

  • Good comprehension of both oral and written instructions and information.

  • Ability to safely operate associated power tools and equipment to perform job duties that use such as drills, sanders, lawn mowers, snow blowers, power saws.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks on a regular basis, regularly lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 or more pounds when moving equipment, etc.

  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work with basic Windows computer applications.

  • At least 3 years' experience working on areas of primary responsibility as noted above.

  • Ability to work with a broad range of both internal and external personnel and contractors.

  • Ability to read, understand and use blueprints and technical plans to complete projects in related fields.

  • Certification Requirements: Valid driver's license

  • Pay Range: $22.04 - $31.96, depending on experience.
