About the Job

Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist will conduct outreach and HIV testing and lead Community Advisory Board (CAB) activities. The role includes executing culturally responsive outreach and testing strategies, coordinating referrals, facilitating CAB meetings, gathering input to inform YAP's SNA project, and ensuring ongoing engagement of CAB members. The Specialist will also provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of both outreach/testing efforts and CAB activities.

Responsibilities:
HIV Testing and Prevention - 50%

  • Provide HIV testing at community locations/events and through at-home self-testing kits specifically targeting Black men ages 15-35.
  • Conduct behavioral risk and PrEP eligibility assessments; provide referrals and education.
  • Follow state and CDC requirements, reporting reactive tests to the Minnesota Department of Health.
  • Identify and refer clients for PrEP or PEP; monitor adherence and provide follow-up support.
  • Publicize testing opportunities and conduct outreach specifically targeting Black men ages 15-35 through culturally responsive approaches.
  • Track and report client data, condom distribution, and testing supply stock.
  • Assist with quarterly reporting and implement quality improvement measures.
  • Maintain records and complete data entry for state and internal reporting.
  • Participate in strategic planning and staff consultations.

Community Advisory Board Coordination - 50%

  • Prepare documentation and processes with the Director of Development, YAP staff, Red Door Clinic, and Hennepin County.
  • Identify and plan key needs prior to launch, including initial CAB activities and logistical preparations.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and reports for distribution to board members.
  • Facilitate CAB meetings and maintain consistent communication to keep members informed and engaged.
  • Conduct assessments and surveys to gather community input and identify needs.
  • Analyze data to prioritize service areas and guide the board's focus and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify service needs and coordinate funding applications.
  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities for CAB members.
  • Ensure smooth communication between the CAB, contractors, and the HC/RDC/YAP (ETAP) team.
  • Provide CAB feedback to the local ETAP team.
  • Partner with community consultants to prepare staff for the integration of CAB initiatives.
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure staff readiness and successful implementation of CAB initiatives.
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
    -AND-
  • Proven experience in community engagement, coordination, or a similar role
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $49,000 - $53,000/year; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75% Appointment
