Quality Assurance Supervisor (2nd/3rd Flex Shift)

Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Quality Assurance Supervisor - 2nd / 3rd Shift to be based out of our Harvey, IL facility. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this person's primary focus will be supervising and developing all the Quality Technicians, managing critical quality processes, and leading all quality initiatives across 2nd / 3rd shift. This role will require some scheduling flexibility, so that there can be critical face time with each direct report.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering and 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment. Supervisory and/or relative steel manufacturing experience preferred.

What you'll do:



  • Supervise and schedule the work of the Quality Technicians.
  • Develop Training and Standard Work for Quality Technicians.
  • Perform Daily Process Parameter Audits on each Mill.
  • Communicate Directly with 2nd and 3rd shift supervisors on Quality issues and support quality technicians in resolving quality issues at the mills.
  • Directs changes in machine set-ups when products fail to meet specifications.
  • Coordinate all containment and traceback initiatives on 2nd and 3rd shift with QA technicians, operations, and warehouse personnel.
  • Manage and report out on the Rejection/Rework Process by coordinating with the Operations team to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Assist in Root Cause analysis with the Process Quality Engineers and Quality Techs for issues found on the manufacturing floor.
  • Assist in evaluating returned products from customer claims.
  • Assist in the ISO recertification process.
  • Manage day to day lab activities which include, but are not limited to, process control activities (bath concentrations), mechanical testing, and coating measurements.
  • Manage the gauge calibration program for the facility.
  • Ensure that QA inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained in proper working order.
  • Assist in customer requests for test reports and mill certifications.
  • Contain and communicate all steel related quality issues to the Supplier Quality Engineer for 2nd and 3rd shift.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment in which priorities may rapidly change.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a Physical Science required
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably steel manufacturing
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Exposure to Lean Principles or Six Sigma preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience working with coatings and galvanizing a plus
  • ISO 9001 experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)

  • Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore
  • Be planning, organizing, and supporting QA programs
  • Achieve operational excellence, superior product, and customer satisfaction


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Contribute ideas in process improvement including KPI's, Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Can resolve issues quickly, providing counter measures.
  • Supervise an efficient team that delivers Atkore's strategy
  • Be the point of contact for performing testing with UL and CSA
  • Create and update reports, training materials and documentation for all QA programs
  • Training plant personnel on quality testing and inspection
  • Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $67,040 - $92,180. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
