Summary: This leadership position is responsible for the overall management, operation, and continuous improvement of the laboratory's facility infrastructure. The Facilities Manager leads the Facilities Team to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, laboratory support systems, and related infrastructure. This position will play a critical role in long-term facilities planning and risk mitigation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership and oversight for all facility infrastructure systems including industrial HVAC (fresh air and recirculating systems), electrical distribution, plumbing, security systems, fire alarms, laboratory ventilation, and critical laboratory instrumentation.
- Direct and coordinate the preventive maintenance program for all facility systems and infrastructure. Prioritize and manage repairs through internal resources and external vendors to ensure optimal operational continuity and regulatory compliance.
- Develop, implement, and lead facility preparation protocols for adverse weather conditions, including pre-event risk mitigation measures, controlled facility shutdown procedures, and coordinated post-event recovery operations to ensure business continuity and personnel safety.
- Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of capital improvement projects. Manage contractor relationships, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements are met.
- Establish and conduct routine facility inspections and oversee the preventive maintenance tasks to proactively address potential issues before they impact operations.
- Provide technical oversight and ensure facility staff and vendors follow manufacturer specifications and documentation when maintaining or repairing equipment and infrastructure systems.
- Manage vendor performance and ensure work performed by outside contractors complies with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure 24/7 response for supporting urgent facility needs outside of regular business hours.
- Oversee and ensure the implementation of comprehensive cleanliness and facility appearance standards across all interior and exterior areas, including laboratories, offices, conference rooms, and campus grounds.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated experience managing facilities in a laboratory, healthcare, industrial, or manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated experience in team supervision, contractor management, and project execution.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, and laboratory utilities.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and managing compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Knowledge and Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and facility management platforms.
- Ability to evaluate and direct the use of diagnostic and testing tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems; capable of leading root cause analyses and system optimization initiatives.
- Working knowledge of laboratory infrastructure and specialized instrumentation lifecycle planning and maintenance.
- Familiarity with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations in laboratory and industrial settings.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple technical projects under time-sensitive and regulated conditions.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment: The physical demands outlined are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a laboratory/warehouse setting which is subject to chemicals, and potential fumes, gasses, odors and related items typical for this environment.
