Research Scientist II

Purpose

The Division of Community Health and Intervention Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking to hire a Research Scientist II to join our team. The applicant must be willing and able to focus on conducting activities, quantitative analysis, and manuscript preparation for the ongoing and longitudinal Self-sampling to Optimize anal Lesion Outcomes (SOLO) study. This study assesses the utility of self-sampling modalities for anal cancer screening. Dr. Alan Nyitray's research is recruiting 572 sexual minority men and transgender persons who have sex with men in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Houston. Outcomes include assessment of compliance with screening and its accuracy, and assessment of molecular biomarkers. Secondarily, the applicant will conduct quantitative analysis and manuscript preparation for Dr. Nyitray's prior studies. Dr. Nyitray's team is housed at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center and draws on the expertise of its faculty and staff along with the expertise of faculty and staff at the Center for AIDS Intervention Research. The applicant will report to Dr. Nyitray and work closely with MCW biostatisticians.

Senior non-faculty researcher, use fundamental and advanced concepts, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to design and perform complex scientific research.

Primary Functions

• Plan and complete the most complex procedures: participate in discovery projects.
• Oversee organization, coding, synthesis and analysis of findings.
• Review research methodologies; plan, develop and compose protocols for implementation, assessment, testing, cost effectiveness, and quality.
• Supervise staff including hiring, training, performance reviews, coaching and corrective actions; oversee daily operations of the laboratory.
• Oversee assignments to researchers, biostatisticians, data analysts, and other members of the research team including staff members, who gather, code, enter and track data.
• Plan and perform statistical analyses using advanced techniques; determine and review statistical findings with investigators and recommend design modifications in study protocols.
• Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts. Assist in outcome interpretation and composition of the results sections of manuscripts and reports.
• Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
• Train students, residents and post-doctoral fellows in specific research protocols; develop training materials.
• Develop, implement and maintain a computerized record system for reporting results.
