GENERAL SUMMARY:

Works within the framework of established operating procedures and in close cooperation with internal and external support personnel. Plans, develops, implements, maintains and supports the Health System's server infrastructure to ensure operational availability. Responsible for all phases of MS Windows Servers/Clusters, VMWare environment, Citrix environment, VDI environment, MS SQL environment, MS Exchange Server as well as physical servers, blade servers/environments, backup systems and storage solutions of all Intel-based systems

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Maintains, administers and installs servers, including but not limited to, installation and configuration of new and existing servers, server upgrades; creates and maintains accurate server and project related documentation.

3. *Maintains and creates backup solutions for servers; provides maintenance, backup and recovery plans for servers and database systems.

4. Maintains and deploys anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for the Medical Center.

5. *Designs, maintains and administers user and server security; designs workstation security and works with IT support staff on implementation and administration.

6. *Creates, tests and deploys software packages and scripts to install, update and maintain software packages on workstations.

7. Researches specifications and makes recommendations of servers, capacity of servers, server-related hardware devices and software.

8. Effectively uses project management tools and methodologies.

9. *Serves as a project leader on diverse Medical Center-wide projects in order to ensure that technology implementation is effective; coaches other staff on issues related to system administration.

10. Works with departmental staff to create processes and standards to deploy new technologies.

11. *Develops, coordinates and implements schedules with vendor and users of applications to achieve a successful implementation process; works with vendors to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems including network, server, printing, management tools, operating systems, etc.

12. Assists in the testing and documentation of new and updated software to ensure quality control and performance standards are met.

13. Provides ongoing second level support of installed systems and end-user hardware/software issues.

14. *Provides regular feedback to management regarding system administration issues; advises management of new developments in hardware, software, systems administration, systems optimization and systems management.

15. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.

16. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

18. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of Active Directory design, deployment, maintenance and group policy management.

2. Knowledge of Windows servers design, configuration and implementation.

3. Knowledge of Terminal server technologies including Citrix Metaframe/Presentation server, MS Virtual server and VMware.

4. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration, MS Windows and MS Office, Linux, MS Project and enterprise backup solutions.

5. Knowledge of enterprise storage systems, SAN, NAS, iSCSI.

6. Knowledge of server class hardware and blade systems.

7. Knowledge of network design, IP protocol suite and network devices.

8. Knowledge of PC configurations and troubleshooting MS Windows workstations.

9. Knowledge of VPN technologies.

10. Knowledge of scripting or light programming as it relates to workstations and server task automation.

11. Skill in the core competencies with respect to design, implementation and team leadership.

12. Ability to identify and evaluate alternative and innovative solutions to problems.

13. Ability to create appropriate network and systems documentation.

14. Ability to establish and manage priorities, plan multiple and complex tasks and evaluate outcomes.

15. Ability to interact effectively with clients, coworkers and vendors who have a broad range of computer knowledge and ability.

16. Ability to grasp complex technical and business systems, processes and principles across IT functions and relationships in support of organizational goals.

17. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

18. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

19. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

20. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

21. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates Degree in computer science or equivalent field of study required. Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field of study preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in a similar role is required. Ten (10) years of experience is preferred. Linus server experience is desirable.

Certifications such as VDI, VMWare Server, Nutanix and Citrix XenApp experience and/or certification preferred. Completion or substantial progress toward certifications in one or more of the following technologies/areas is also preferred: Microsoft ITOps or Cloud Providers (Microsoft Azure, Google or AWS).

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Maintains skill sets and certifications for the core competencies of MS Servers, VMWare & Citrix.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
