Position Overview


Position Summary
The applicant must demonstrate a working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, doors, locking systems, and general maintenance repair for commercial residential properties. This is a supervisory position that will oversee the technicians within these trades. The position/applicant will assess Housing and Residence Life facilities management through reporting and the development of a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance program. This is a position that is responsible for the coordination of fire drills, annual building inspections and the evaluation and repairs of the housing facilities. The position/applicant may work closely with Design and Construction on capital projects pertaining to Housing and Residence Life. Demonstrated prior or current relevant staff supervision, and a displayed understanding of state and departmental procurement regulations are a plus.
Required: EPA Certification A Type I, II, III or Universal Technician as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.

Project Management

  • Create and implement a Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and ensure its execution.
  • Develop and implement a systematic supplies, tools, and equipment inventory system. Assess equipment to identify needed services/repairs.
  • Work with campus Environmental Health and Safety and Residence Education unit to coordinate and implement semester fire drills, annual building inspections, and ensure safety standards are met per current industry standards.
  • Conduct ongoing inspection and evaluation of housing facilities and keep the Director of H&RL updated and current of findings and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Serve as point person with elevator company and work with University Facilities Management liaison to ensure on-going communication and proper functioning of elevators to ensure the safety of the resident population. Coordinate all elevator inspections for H&RL. .
  • Work with the Design and Construction (D&C) department on all matters pertaining to capital projects, building renovations, repairs and more.
  • Work with the University's Grounds department, a division of Building Environmental Services, and serve as the department's primary staff to work and coordinate the upkeep of the gutters/drains, grounds and dumpsters surrounding the residence halls.
  • Conduct assessments of residence halls stairs (inside and outside) to ensure there are no cracks (and related matters) and safety measures continuously apply.
  • Create, development and implement a student maintenance program which will allow the department to hire student to gain skills and experience with low level maintenance work.


Knowledge - Technical

  • Supervision of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, preventive maintenance, and electrical backgrounds. Provide on-going feedback on performance.
  • Responsible for managing the maintenance and repair of air conditioning systems, refrigeration, chilled water distribution, electrical systems, door hardware installation, and key management systems at a state institution or commercial residential property.
  • Advanced technical knowledge in one trade area with acquired coordinating and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to enforce code compliance with employees, other university crafts, D&C, performance contracting, outside vendor and others.
  • Proficient in MS office applications to complete administrative duties.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software.

  • Two (2) years of technical school.
